Job Title: Security Guard

Department: Retail Operations

Location: Union Square

Reports to: General Manager

Direct/Indirect Reports: None

Job Summary

The Security Guard is responsible for ensuring a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for customers, employees, and visitors at our retail location. This role includes loss-prevention practices, access control, surveillance, and responsive support during incidents while maintaining customer service standards consistent with our brand. Compliance with New York State security registration and training requirements is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Security

  • Patrol premises to deter theft, vandalism, and other security risks.
  • Monitor entry/exit points and be vigilant of suspicious activity.
  • Respond promptly to alarms, disturbances, and emergencies.
  • Collaborate with management and law enforcement when necessary.

Loss Prevention

  • Observe and record individuals and incidents to minimize shrink and unauthorized activity.
  • Prepare accurate incident reports and communicate to management.
  • Partner with inventory/cash handling teams to support loss prevention strategies.

Customer Experience

  • Provide a visible, approachable presence in a professional manner.
  • Assist customers and employees with directions, information, and safe conduct.
  • Scan IDs of customers to ensure they are over the age of 21
  • Check guests in that have an appointment when directed by store leadership

Compliance

  • Maintain valid NY State Security Guard registration (unarmed).
  • Complete required 8-hour pre-assignment training prior to registration application, 16-hour OJT, and 8-hour annual training.

Qualifications

Education / Certification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • NYS Security Guard Registration Card required (unarmed).
  • Must complete NYS-mandated training courses and background check.

Experience

  • Previous experience in security, retail loss prevention, or customer service preferred.

Skills / Traits

  • Strong observational and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Professional appearance and customer-centric demeanor.
  • Basic report writing and conflict resolution abilities.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Frequent standing, walking, and patrolling throughout the store.
  • Availability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation

  • Hourly Rate: e.g., $21.00 – $27.00/hr depending on experience.
