Job Description: Middle/High School Physical Education Teacher for MOVE Program

Position: High School Physical Education Teacher

Start Date: January 7, 2025

Schedule: Part-time, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:45 PM - 4:00 PM

Location: Zeeland Township

Compensation: $20 per hour

Grades: 8th-12th

Location: The Social Microschool in Zeeland, MI

Job Summary

The Social is seeking a dedicated and energetic Physical Education Teacher to join our team for the upcoming school year. This part-time position involves teaching two PE sessions per week, with additional time allocated for planning. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in various sports, possess classroom management skills, and be passionate about promoting physical fitness and healthy lifestyles among middle/high school students.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct engaging physical education classes twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:45 PM to 4:00 PM.
• Track fitness activities and develop individualized goals for each student
• Assist in the development and implementation of a diverse curriculum that can include activities such as swimming, cycling, running, and others, with a focus on lifetime sports over team sports
• Provide basic nutrition education 
• Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages all students to participate and achieve their personal best.
• Manage classroom behavior effectively to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
• Assess and monitor students' progress, providing feedback and support to help them improve their physical skills and knowledge.
• Collaborate with school staff and administration to align PE programs with overall educational goals and policies.
• Ensure the proper use and maintenance of PE equipment and facilities.

Qualifications

• Required:
• Athletic experience in multiple sports, either as a participant or trainer
• Experience with classroom management in a classroom setting
• Active participation in a personal fitness discipline of any type
• Knowledge and experience with nutrition science
• Preferred:
• PE certification

About Us

The Social is a nonacademic microschool that supports families by providing weekly opportunities for skill development through hands-on and play-based learning, vocation exploration, and project-based learning for kindergarten through eighth grade. This program will be extending our programming to high school students to provide our families with a flexible physical education class to help teach lifelong fitness habits to our students. The Social is a faith based extracurricular education program with a core belief that God created us with inherent worth and value.
