The Role

The Shift Supervisor oversees participation and payroll for each shift. The Shift Supervisor ensures participants’ duties are clearly stated and that participants are motivated to carry them out effectively. The Shift Supervisor must maintain a safe working environment for all participants, addressing concerns and hazards immediately. The Shift Supervisor meets bi-weekly with the Outreach Manager to discuss upcoming shifts, locations, goals and feedback.  


*Note: As a part of the Work Local Team, your role will fall under the umbrella of the Outreach Team as a whole. While WL Shift Supervisor will be your primary role, you may be called upon at times to provide support to the Street Outreach or Workforce Development teams.  The Hub is a cohesive, collaborative team all working together to assist individuals on their journey to exit homelessness. 


What is Work Local

The Hospitality Hub partners with the City of Memphis and other donors to address blight with clean up efforts across the city. Work Local provides opportunity for work and compensation to those experiencing homelessness in an effort to meet both immediate needs and foster development through case management towards long term goals and stability. Comprising 2 crews, Litter and Alley, the teams perform duties to clean blight and clear overgrown areas through landscaping and maintenance.  As team members interact with participants, the overarching goal is to build rapport while providing ongoing case management, support and access to resources. Through continuous engagement, the team works collaboratively with individuals to promote stability and assist them on their journey towards exiting homelessness.

While the primary responsibilities of the position are outlined below, we expect all staff to be flexible and available to respond to emergencies and fulfill programmatic responsibilities which may require working holidays, weekends, evenings, or nights. Everyone in the organization is expected to identify and solve problems. The Hub hires passionate, empathetic individuals. 


Additionally, the Hospitality Hub serves people who have experienced discrimination, violence, and other traumatic events. Many Hub clients and guests are healing from trauma related to their marginalization. It is critically important that all members of the Hub team maintain a hospitable and welcoming environment by remaining calm and kind when clients are feeling frustrated.



Primary Location: The current position is located at 590 Washington Ave, Memphis TN 38105 

Hours: Typical hours for this position are Monday - Friday, four days 7:00 am - 3:00 pm 

Pay: The salary for this position is dependent on the candidate's demonstrated experience, expertise, and skill. The salary range starts at $17. Hourly team members are compensated with overtime pay for hours exceeding 40 hours a week.

While the primary responsibilities of the position are outlined below, this list is not exhaustive.

Responsibilities 

  • Communicate with Outreach Manager to understand targeted locations to clean up
  • Ensure that daily goals are met
  • Manage debit card payment processing following each shift
  • Ensure that each participant has completed a Work Local Participant Form, liability, and photo form prior to each shift. 
  • Understand and ensure all participants follow all Hub safety protocols
  • Fill out Work Local shift report after each shift
  • Enter daily progress and case management notes into CRM
  • Resolve conflicts during shifts using de-escalation and mediation skills
  • Prepare and sanitize tools and equipment prior to each shift
  • Maintain and sanitize equipment and tools after each shift
  • Transfer tools and equipment to and from the worksite 
  • Make equipment, tools and supplies requests to the  Outreach Manager 
  • In case of a participant complaint, fill out a form and report to the Outreach Manager in the daily report and with a follow-up conversation
  • In case of an accident, fill out an incident form and report to the Outreach Manager in the daily report and with a follow-up conversation
  • Refer ALL partner, funder and media requests or questions to the Director of Operations
  • Keep participants safe, engaged, and on task
  • Speak positively about the program at all times to participants, funders, partners, and the general public
  • Take photographs as able while on shift and share with your daily report
  • If you see a blighted area not listed on your 311 ticketed area, do not clean it up but instead report it through 311
  • Assist with the culmination of verifiable employer partners 
  • Assist with the facilitation and oversight of Workforce Development programming
  • Report any issues with equipment or vehicles to the Outreach Manager
  • Assist in leading shifts to prepare for and clean up of the Warming/Cooling Center
  • Support the training and onboarding of new hires and interns, reflecting our commitment to being a learning organization.
  • Must be available to work additional shifts as needed to support Warming and Cooling Center Operations during extreme weather events. 


Requirements

  • Organized
  • Current Driver's License 
  • Safe Driving Record
  • Punctual
  • Previous experience as a Crew or Shift Supervisor or similar role
  • Passion for creating a positive, safe, and encouraging work environment for colleagues and participants
  • The ability to meet the physical demands of the job, such as standing up for long hours and lifting heavy loads occasionally
  • Work well within a team
  • Leadership and conflict-management skills
  • The ability to work consecutive hours outside or in a vehicle
  • The ability to move safely over uneven terrain walking on uneven surfaces 
  • The ability to lift up to 50lbs.


Training provided by The Hospitality Hub

  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certificate 
  • De-escalation and mediation training
  • Reporting and data collection through the Hub’s CRM system and HMIS
  • Orientation on all Hub programs, services, and referral partnerships
