The primary responsibility of the Kitchen Associate is to prepare timely healthy, delicious meals for all overnight guests three times a day (up to 60 people including children); lunches for Work Local participants (up to 40 per day); additional meal services as needed for staff, guests, and visitors. The Kitchen Associate is responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly kitchen—including the storage and dining area—and creating a healthy, bright, and fresh environment. All positions may, if needed, help in other departments on occasion.

About the Role: The primary responsibility of the Kitchen Associate is to prepare timely healthy, delicious meals for all overnight guests three times a day (up to 60 people including children); lunches for Work Local participants (up to 40 per day); additional meal services as needed for staff, guests, and visitors. The Kitchen Associate is responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly kitchen—including the storage and dining area—and creating a healthy, bright, and fresh environment. All positions may, if needed, help in other departments on occasion.


The Hospitality Hub serves people who have experienced discrimination, violence, and other traumatic events. Many Hub clients and guests are healing from trauma related to their marginalization. It is critically important that all members of the Hub team maintain a hospitable and welcoming environment by remaining calm and kind when clients are feeling frustrated.


Reports to: Facilities Manager

Hours: Daytime (exact hours TBD)

Pay: Range starts at $15/hour

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares food items by cutting, chopping, mixing, and preparing sauces
  • Cooks main dishes, desserts, appetizers, and snacks by grilling, frying, sautéing, and other cooking methods to specified recipes and standards
  • Plates and serves or pre-packs prepared foods 
  • Follows all kitchen operation and hygiene procedures to meet food safety standards and regulations including the handling and storage of food
  • Follows recipes, including measuring, weighing, and mixing ingredients
  • Sets up and stocks food items and other necessary supplies
  • Maintains cleanliness and complies with food sanitation requirements by properly handling food and ensuring correct storage
  • Wears gloves when handling all food
  • Cleans and sanitizes cooking surfaces at the end of the shift
  • Puts away all pots, pans, and utensils where they belong
  • Performs inventory checks and completes food storage logs


 Requirements: 

  • 2+ years of experience as a line cook, restaurant cook, or prep cook
  • Experience with various cooking methods and procedures
  • Familiar with industry best practices including healthy eating and sanitation
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to use Slack (a chat messaging application) to communicate with colleagues
  • Organizational skills
  • Accuracy and speed in executing tasks
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Follows directions and instructions
  • Able to work 8 hours on your feet and lift 30 lbs
