Objective: The Director of Marketing supports TGC’s mission to renew and unify the contemporary church in the ancient gospel by serving as TGC’s marketing strategist—owning the marketing funnel and audience journey from first touch to a lasting engagement. This role works with departments across TGC to creatively design campaigns; map how audiences discover, engage with, and invest in TGC’s content, events, publishing, and mission; and lead the marketing team and production workflow, translating organizational priorities into clear campaign briefs, compelling messaging, and coordinated execution.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • 7+ years of experience in marketing strategy, lifecycle/funnel marketing, or campaign management, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
  • Exceptional writing and messaging ability, with the judgment to direct and refine the work of other writers
  • Proven experience building campaign briefs and leading teams or cross-functional projects
  • Fluency with email marketing platforms (HubSpot preferred), segmentation, and A/B testing
  • Strong creative judgment: able to generate original campaign ideas and evaluate which will work
  • Background experience in social media strategy
  • Working Genius strengths in Invention and Discernment strongly preferred
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills across diverse teams and stakeholders
  • Working knowledge on the use of LLMs and technology that would help the day-to-day operations
  • Alignment with TGC’s theological commitments, mission, and values, and a demonstrated ability to work within a gospel-centered organizational culture


Responsibilities

Marketing Strategy 

  • Own and continually refine TGC’s end-to-end marketing funnel: awareness, engagement, subscription, event participation, and donor investment.
  • Map and optimize audience journeys across email, web, social, podcast, events, and publishing touchpoints.
  • Define segmentation and lifecycle strategy, including automated email journeys and audience personas.
  • Set measurable goals for each funnel stage and review performance with the team to inform adaptive planning.
  • Translate organizational priorities — editorial, events, publishing, and women’s initiatives into an integrated marketing roadmap.
  • Stay up to date on the latest technology trends, strategies, and new methods to reach our audiences. 
  • Strategize and steward TGC’s brand and voice. 

Major Campaign Architecture & Creative Briefs 

  • Work with departments across TGC—editorial, events, publishing, women’s initiatives, and development—to creatively design integrated campaigns for events, content, books, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Write clear, complete campaign briefs that define audience, message, channels, deliverables, timeline, and success metrics.
  • Delegate briefs to the Marketing Specialist, Marketing Coordinator, and production team with the context they need to execute with excellence.
  • Review campaign results and capture learnings that sharpen the next brief.

Team Leadership 

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the Marketing Specialist and Marketing Coordinator, playing to each person’s strengths.
  • Direct and prioritize the production team’s marketing workflow, ensuring design and multimedia requests are well-briefed and on schedule.
  • Run the team’s planning rhythms: campaign kickoffs, weekly priorities, and retrospectives.
  • Manage the marketing budget and spending allocations in partnership with the VP of Operations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with the Editorial Team, Events Team, Development Team, Women’s Initiatives Team, and Social Media Manager.
