The Church at Clayton Crossings — Clayton, NC
Full-time (40 hours per week) · Competitive salary + benefits, based on experience · Reports to the Connections Director
About The Church at Clayton Crossings
At The Church at Clayton Crossings, we do whatever it takes to help people find and follow Jesus through making disciples and multiplying churches. We are a gospel-centered Southern Baptist church of more than 1,200 in Clayton, North Carolina — the fastest-growing town in the fastest-growing county in the state — and a community full of young families. We take the Gospel seriously while ensuring everything else about our culture reflects grace, excellence, and intentionality. Here are a few guiding principles — or plumblines, as we call them — that shape everything we do:
- The Gospel is offensive. Nothing else should be.
- Everything speaks.
- Discipleship happens in relationships.
Our staff core values
Our staff are blue collar leaders. We know why we're here, we want to be here, and we are ready for whatever it takes. Every person on our team — and every leader they raise up — is shaped by five values:
- We are all in on the mission. We are locked into making disciples and multiplying churches. Everything we do flows from it.
- We act with wisdom. We know how the church works, and we lead with discernment, not just good intentions.
- We pursue holiness. What we do publicly flows from who we are privately. We are marked by prayer and God's Word.
- We are extremely driven. We work with intensity because eternity is at stake, and we bring our absolute best every time.
- We love what we do. We love the people we work with, and we pursue joy even when the work is hard.
Position overview
The Communications Director creates, organizes, and implements the engagement strategies that carry the church's message to every audience — helping people find and follow Jesus through clear, excellent, and consistent communication. Because everything speaks, this role serves as the eyes for all things print and electronic, guarding brand presence and clarity across every medium: website, app, email, text messaging, social media, print, video, and photography.
This is a builder's role, and a leader-of-leaders role. For channels like the livestream and social media, the expectation is not that you personally execute every task, but that you build and lead the teams who do — and hold the standard of excellence for everything they produce. You will bring content creation in house, multiply a team of staff and volunteer creatives, and streamline how the whole staff gets communication support — so that every ministry's vision reaches the right audience at the right time.
Primary responsibilities
Communication strategy and brand
- Create, organize, and implement effective communication strategies for church and community audiences across every medium.
- Serve as the eyes for all things print and electronic, ensuring clear communication, brand presence, and consistency in everything that carries the church's name.
- Work closely with the Executive Pastor to align communication priorities with the church calendar, daily operations, and staff rhythms.
- Solicit information from ministry leaders and convey their vision and priorities to the right audiences in a timely manner.
- Creatively communicate stories of life change within the church.
- Create and implement a strategy for increasing the church's visibility in the Clayton community.
Content creation and visual excellence
- Bring content creation in house — graphics, photography, video, and written content — with a sharp eye for visual excellence.
- Produce professional design work.
- Ensure everything we publish is written, edited, and proofread with grammatical precision — building the standards and review systems so excellence happens on every channel, not just the ones you touch personally.
- Apply SEO best practices to the website and digital content so people searching for a church find us.
- Leverage AI tools wisely to multiply the team's creative capacity and output.
Digital platforms and channels
- Update and maintain the church website (WordPress or Squarespace) and serve as the church webmaster.
- Manage email, text messaging, and app communication — including MailChimp and Planning Center — so each channel reaches its audience well.
- Oversee the church's social media presence — ensuring content, messaging, and engagement are executed with excellence through staff and volunteers — and track social KPIs to measure what is working.
- Ensure the church YouTube channel, livestream, and church online are executed with excellence through the teams who run them.
Team building and staff support
- Cultivate, lead, and multiply a team of staff and volunteer creatives — writers, photographers, videographers, and designers.
- Streamline communication support for staff and ministry leaders through clear request processes and project management systems.
- Collaborate across every ministry area, bringing a joyful, can-do presence that reflects our value of loving what we do.
Sunday and weekly execution
- Help us think clearly about our language from stage — shaping announcement scripts and how we say what matters most.
- Build and oversee a volunteer host team for Sunday church online.
- Collaborate with the Lead Pastor, Executive Pastor, and tech team on sermon series creation — branding, media, and supporting content.
- Oversee video projects that communicate events, ministry needs, and vision.
Administration and stewardship
- Steward the communications budget with wisdom and submit monthly expense reports.
- Manage projects from request to delivery, keeping ministries informed on timelines.
- Remain current on technology, communication, and marketing trends — including AI — and use that knowledge to keep communications effective and relevant.

Critical success factor
