The Senior Accountant plays a key role in accurate financial reporting, compliance, and oversight of accounting processes. Leading the month-end and year-end closing process. Assisting with the auditing process and mentoring junior staff.

Senior Accountant (Exempt / Salary Employee) 

Location: Chicago - Hyrbid

Hours: Annual Average Weekly Hours = 50 Hrs/Wk 

Department: Accounting 

Reports to: Senior Accounting Manager

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare and maintain financial reports and records 
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts 
  • Process payroll and perform benefit reconciliations  
  • Help prepare and analyze financial statements 
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes 
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards 
  • Assist in audit and review preparation 
  • Support additional initiatives and responsibilities as directed by management 

 

Required Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration 
  • Must have nonprofit accounting experience
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience 
  • Strong technical accounting skills 
  • CPA or working towards certification 
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct)

Compensation Range for Chicago: 

  • $70,000 – 90,000/year
