Content Creator for LA County community health nonprofit organization.

About Tena

Tena is a community-centric nonprofit that aims to bring preventive healthcare services to historically underserved, under-resourced, and marginalized communities. Tena recognizes that access to quality resources and health education can be difficult to obtain in many communities, and works hard to bridge this gap. Composed primarily of Los Angeles County natives, the team draws upon the social determinants of health to provide services that support the health and wellness of their neighborhoods and beyond. Tena believes in empowering others to have the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to live a healthy and enriched life.

Total Contract Value: Up to $15,000

About the Role

The Content Creator will work closely with TENA leadership to develop and produce social media content that reflects our programs, community outreach, people, and impact. This role is a combination of content strategy, on-site content capture, and photo/video editing.

We are looking for someone who understands what makes content engaging on Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn and stays current on platform trends and social media best practices. You do not need formal professional experience or a specific degree. We care much more about your creativity, judgment, ability to tell a story, and the quality of work you can independently produce.

Because much of TENA's work happens in the community, this position requires someone who is comfortable attending outreach events throughout Los Angeles County and capturing live content.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with TENA leadership to brainstorm and strategize social media content ideas that support TENA's programs, outreach, and organizational goals.
  • Identify relevant social media trends and thoughtfully adapt them to TENA's audience, mission, and voice.
  • Develop content ideas for Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn, recognizing that content and audiences may differ across platforms.
  • Attend designated TENA outreach events and program activities throughout Los Angeles County to capture high-quality photos and video.
  • Capture short-form video, interviews, behind-the-scenes content, event highlights, and other visual storytelling opportunities.
  • Edit photos and videos into polished, engaging social media content.
  • Create short-form videos, Reels, TikToks, and other platform-appropriate content from footage captured at TENA activities.
  • Organize and maintain captured photo and video assets for future use.
  • Stay current on social media trends, platform updates, content formats, and best practices.
  • Collaborate on new ideas for making TENA's social media presence more engaging while maintaining appropriate standards for a community health nonprofit.
  • Follow TENA's expectations regarding consent, privacy, professionalism, and respectful representation when capturing community members, students, partners, and staff.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Strong working knowledge of Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn.
  • Familiarity with creating and editing short-form social media content.
  • Understanding of current social media trends and platform-specific best practices.
  • Ability to independently capture and edit high-quality photo and video content.
  • Creativity and strong visual storytelling instincts.
  • Ability to work collaboratively while also completing assigned content independently.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to attend designated TENA events throughout Los Angeles County.
  • Must be available on every second and third Saturday of each month.
  • Ability to provide your own laptop for editing and content-related work.
  • Reliable communication, organization, and ability to meet agreed-upon deadlines.

Strongly encouraged:

  • Spanish-speaking or bilingual candidates.
  • Familiarity with Los Angeles County communities.
  • Interest in community health, health equity, social justice, health justice, nonprofit work, healthcare, or community-based programs.

Formal professional experience in social media or content creation is not required.

Portfolio Requirement

Applicants must submit examples of original content they have created.

At least some submitted examples should represent work that you created entirely on your own from concept to final product, including filming or photography and editing. Examples may include personal projects, school projects, social media accounts, freelance work, or other independently created content. We are interested in seeing what you can create, regardless of whether you have previously held a formal content creation or social media position.

Equipment

TENA will provide access to basic content creation equipment, including:

  • Camera equipment
  • Microphones
  • Basic editing software

The contractor must provide their own laptop capable of completing photo and video editing work.

Compensation & Contract

This is a grant-funded independent contractor (1099) position compensated at $30 per hour from October 2026 - January 2027, for a maximum contract value of $15,000. Hours may vary based on TENA's outreach calendar, content needs, and grant period. Some work may be completed remotely, while content capture will require attendance at designated in-person events throughout Los Angeles County. Availability on the second and third Saturday of each month is required.

What We're Looking For

You may be a strong fit for this role if you're the person who naturally notices what would make a good Reel, knows when a trend is worth using, and can turn a folder of event footage into content people actually want to watch.

We value someone who can bring creative ideas to the table while understanding that TENA works with real communities and real health and social needs. Our content should be engaging without losing the respect, authenticity, and care that community-based work requires.
