TechTonic Justice is seeking a part-time Operations Coordinator to assist with core accounting, compliance, and project management operations.

About TechTonic Justice, Inc.

Governments, landlords, employers, and other powerful actors use artificial intelligence (AI), algorithms, and related technologies to make decisions about how low-income people work, live, learn, and survive. When people are hurt by AI decision-making, they have few places to turn. TechTonic Justice exists to change this. TechTonic Justice fights the ground-level harms AI causes low-income communities. We do this mainly by supporting local justice movements--legal aid organizations, frontline service providers, grassroots organizers, and affected communities--to identify and fight harmful uses of AI. We emphasize a multidimensional advocacy approach that blends litigation, community activation and organizing, public education, and narrative advocacy. We are based in Los Angeles and offer our services nationwide, with emphasis on the South and the West Coast.

Guided Questions

In lieu of a cover letter, these questions are designed to help us understand how you think, how you organize, your readiness to support operations in a startup environment, and your ability to operate effectively while reporting to a fully remote team. Responses demonstrating specific experience matter more than polished language.

  • Please respond to all questions.
  • Be concise and specific; do not use AI to generate your answers
  • Bullet points are acceptable where appropriate.

  1. Describe a process you inherited or built from scratch that involved multiple steps, multiple people, and had to be repeated regularly. How did you document it? How did you improve it over time? What broke, and what did you do about it? (150-200 words)
  2. This role involves managing compliance deadlines across multiple systems, domains, and frequencies. How have you tracked and managed recurring compliance obligations in the past? What systems or tools did you use, and what happened when something was at risk of falling through the cracks? (150-200 words)
  3. Tell us about a time you were responsible for keeping a database, tracking system, or CRM accurate and up to date: not just entering data, but owning the quality of the information over time. What kind of system was it? What did "good" look like, and how did you know when it wasn't? What did you do when you found errors, gaps, or outdated records? How did you get others to contribute correctly? (150-200 words)
  4. You're reviewing a batch of expense receipts to code against three active grants. You notice that two receipts are missing key information and one expense seems miscoded from a prior month. What do you do? (150-200 words)

Salary

$25 - $30 per hour
