The Head of Delivery will oversee our portfolio of consulting, learning, client-facing event projects, and flagship TechChange-owned events, while directly supporting and developing our business line leads and delivery staff. Working closely with the COO and other members of the leadership team, this person will help ensure that projects are appropriately staffed, financially healthy, operationally effective, and positioned for long-term success.
We're looking for someone who enjoys helping others thrive, brings structure and clarity to complex situations, and is energized by the challenge of balancing people, processes, and client needs. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable coaching team members, solving operational challenges, and strengthening the systems that enable great work to happen.
Core Responsibilities
1. Delivery Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and develop TechChange's delivery team, including business line leads, project leads, and delivery contractors
- Serve as the primary escalation point for delivery, staffing, and operational challenges, partnering with the COO on significant commercial or contractual decisions.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and strong client service
- Build the capacity and autonomy of team members through coaching, feedback, and professional development
2. Project Portfolio Oversight
- Maintain oversight of the organization's consulting, learning, client-facing event projects, and TechChange-owned events, ensuring they remain on track, on budget, and aligned with organizational objectives
- Monitor project health, client satisfaction, and delivery risks, intervening when necessary to support successful outcomes
- Review and approve project charters, staffing plans, major milestones, and significant project changes
- Partner with project leads and the COO to address complex client, staffing, and delivery challenges
3. Consulting Staffing & Contractor Management
- Lead staffing and contractor planning for consulting engagements
- Partner with consulting leads to identify staffing needs, recruit specialized consultants, and oversee consultant onboarding, contracting, and management processes
- Develop scalable systems and practices for consultant recruitment, staffing, and performance management across consulting engagements
- Partner with the COO on significant staffing decisions and workforce planning
4. Financial Performance & Operational Management
- Monitor budgets, expenses, staffing, and operational performance across projects and owned events
- Partner with Finance and project leads to identify financial risks and opportunities for improvement
- Support project teams in managing scope changes, contract modifications, and operational challenges
- Ensure strong operational discipline through effective systems, reporting, and project management practices
5. Vendor & Organizational Management
- Oversee vendor procurement, contracting, and budget management processes within delegated authority, including for major TechChange-owned events
- Manage delivery-related systems, tools, and software platforms
- Lead initiatives that improve service quality, operational efficiency, and organizational effectiveness
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 5+ years of experience leading complex projects, programs, client engagements, or delivery portfolios
- Demonstrated experience managing and developing high-performing teams, including remote staff and contractors
- Experience in at least 2 of the following 3 domains: advisory services/consulting, learning & training, event management
- Experience in international development, humanitarian aid or a related field
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of complex workflows, synthesize inputs, and bring forward clear recommendations rather than deferring decisions upward
- Proactive and solutions-oriented, with a bias toward action and the ability to move work forward without waiting for perfect clarity
- Demonstrated success coaching, developing, and supporting team members to grow in autonomy and responsibility
- Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, margins, and financial performance
You Could Be Successful in This Role If...
- You enjoy helping talented people do their best work.
- You find satisfaction in making complex systems run smoothly.
- You naturally connect dots across projects, people, and priorities.
- You are comfortable making recommendations and taking ownership in situations where there isn't always a clear right answer.
- You can move between coaching a team member, reviewing a budget, solving a delivery challenge, and improving a process—all in the same day.
- You care about both mission and execution and believe strong operations enable meaningful impact.
This Role Might Not Be Right for You If...
- You prefer to focus primarily on strategy rather than execution. This role requires rolling up your sleeves and helping teams navigate day-to-day delivery challenges.
- You are looking for a role with a large support staff or significant administrative resources. We are a small organization, and everyone contributes across multiple areas.
- You would rather be the primary implementer than the coach, manager, and escalation point. Much of this role's success comes from enabling others to do their best work.
- You prefer environments where all processes, roles, and decision-making structures are already fully defined. This role requires comfort building structure, improving systems, and navigating change as the organization evolves.
- You prefer to escalate decisions rather than make recommendations. We are looking for someone who can absorb complexity, exercise judgment, and move work forward.
- You are uncomfortable balancing people, budgets, client needs, and organizational priorities simultaneously.
- You are looking for a narrowly scoped consulting engagement. While this is a part-time role, it carries ongoing responsibility for people, projects, and organizational outcomes.
Working Model
- Part-time role, expected to average approximately 20–30 hours per week, depending on project volume and event cycles
- Fully remote
- Regular overlap with U.S. Eastern Time working hours is required, as this role works closely with TechChange leadership and delivery staff
- Flexibility to participate in occasional meetings with colleagues, partners, and contractors in Europe and Africa when needed
- Flexible schedule, with the expectation that the Head of Delivery is responsive to time-sensitive delivery, staffing, and operational needs
Compensation
This role is structured as a monthly retainer. We anticipate a commitment averaging approximately 25–30 hours per week, depending on project volume and event cycles. Compensation is expected to fall within the range of $6,000–$8,000 per month depending on experience and qualifications.
While the role is part-time, it is a leadership position with responsibility for team management, staffing decisions and delivery oversight.
