Title: Junior Software Engineer

Department: AI Solutions

Reports to: Director of AI Strategy & Solutions

Location: Remote


Summary

As a Jr. Software Engineer at Tarpon Health, you will contribute to the tools and products that keep our operations running and our clients well-served. Your work will span two main areas: maintaining and improving internal automation tools and our company website, and supporting client-facing projects alongside experienced engineers on the AI Strategy & Solutions team.

This role is designed for early-career engineers who want real, hands-on experience across a range of projects. You will write code every day, get exposure to AI and agentic solutions, and learn how to take work from an idea to something that holds up in production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and improve internal automation tools, ensuring they stay reliable and up to date as the team's needs evolve.
  • Support the maintenance and ongoing development of the Tarpon website, including updates, bug fixes, and feature additions.
  • Write, test, and document code for client-facing AI and automation solutions under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Help integrate AI features, including prompts, tool use, and retrieval pipelines, into internal and client workflows.
  • Build and connect APIs and data pipelines that move information into usable formats for AI systems and downstream applications.
  • Document your work clearly and communicate progress, blockers, and questions to the team in a timely way.
  • Collaborate with teammates and, with support, engage with client teams to understand requirements and confirm that solutions meet their needs.
  • Stay curious about developments in AI, automation, and agentic solutions, and bring that learning into your day-to-day work.
  • Be an internal resource within the Tarpon team as it relates to AI education an building AI excellence within the Tarpon team.



Required Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree, preferably in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or Data Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1 to 3 years of professional software engineering experience, including internships or significant project work.
  • Working proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, or C#.
  • Familiarity with APIs, data structures, and version control with Git.
  • Some exposure to or genuine curiosity about AI tools, LLMs, and automation frameworks such as LangChain or LlamaIndex.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in or alongside U.S. healthcare, revenue cycle, or with a major EMR system such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth.
  • Familiarity with web development tools and technologies relevant to website maintenance and updates.
  • Exposure to agentic solutions, automation platforms, or AI-assisted development tools.

$60,000 - $90,000 per year
