Overview: Tamalpais Pediatrics is a welcoming, progressive high quality medical practice specializing in the care of children from birth through adolescence, with offices in Larkspur and Novato. We are seeking a Behavioral Health Coordinator to assist patients who are referred by our pediatric primary care providers into Behavioral Health Services (BHS).This position is in-person only at our office. Description: The successful candidate will possess strong communication and customer service skills and is excited about the impact and importance of Behavioral Health Services. This position has direct patient and family contact and close interaction with our provider team. This position serves the important role of coordinating many administrative tasks which are required for the patient-provider interaction to happen seamlessly. General understanding of mental health services, medical front office functions, health insurance, and electronic health records is a plus.

Description

Job Duties:

  • Serve as a primary administrative point of contact for the BHS program.
  • Obtain consent forms, release of information forms, and other forms required for BHS patients to receive care.
  • Ensure patients are completing pre-appointment questionnaires and follow-up with patients as necessary.
  • Obtain current and prior treatment records, reports, and questionnaires from external providers and external organizations, including schools and emergency departments, to electronically append to patients’ medical records. Ensure proper release of information is documented for all exchanges of information
  • Work closely with the BHS team and other providers and Front Office staff to facilitate patient scheduling and smooth patient flow.
  • Explain to patients and parents our policies and procedures required for participation in BHS.
  • Serve as a financial counselor to assist patients and parents to understand their financial responsibilities related to BHS, coordinating with the Business Office when appropriate.
  • Monitor and respond to non-clinical patient communication related to BHS.
  • Create a welcoming environment for all patients.
  • Other duties / projects as requested.


Requirements and Minimum Education Level:

  • Associate of Arts Degree, Bachelors Degree, or equivalent experience is required.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID and willing to receive annual COVID and flu vaccines


Experience:

  • Two years experience working in a medical office is preferred (in a behavioral health setting is a plus).


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic familiarity with the mental healthcare payer environment, and/or demonstrated capacity to learn.
  • Must be extremely discrete, sensitive to patients’ needs, and highly discerning of legal and ethical responsibilities for patient privacy.
  • Must be detail oriented, computer literate, reliable, a team player, and must be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to communicate clearly and professionally both in person and on the phone.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Available to work part time Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM.
  • Must be able to work in person at our Novato and Larkspur offices.
  • Bilingual Portuguese and/or Spanish is highly desired.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk / computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds

Salary range:

The expected hourly range for this position is between $25 to $30 per hour. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
