BARISTA JOB DESCRIPTION


Baristas are the face of Sweet Bloom in our cafes. As a barista we will empower you with world class education and professional development. Our baristas strive to be the best in the world as they are experts in every aspect of coffee, hospitality and service. Our team is filled with people who care deeply about our community, our world, and seek to bring beauty into every interaction.


TWO PART TIME POSITIONS available at Sweet Bloom's Lakewood Roastery and Tasting Room. 24-28 hours per week.

(Saturday Availability Required.)


FULL TIME AND PART TIME POSITIONS available at Sweet Bloom's Golden Cafe opening October 2026*.

(Saturday Availability Required.)


*Positions offered at Sweet Bloom's Golden Cafe will have a 9/28/26 start date. 


COMPENSATION: $23.50 per hour (Base wage of $13.50 per hour + guaranteed $10 per hour minimum tip share. Base wage cap: $17.00 per hour.)

HOSPITALITY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet Customers with a genuine and warm welcome as soon as they arrive in the cafe. Use eye contact and a smile when speaking with each guest.
  • Offer answers to questions and concerns with patience, confidence and professionalism.
  • Engage with customers about their preferences and offer suggestions accordingly.
  • Seek to learn guests names and coffee preferences to provide a personalized experience for guests and to invite them into the greater sense of community we cultivate in our cafes. 
  • Prepare food and drinks that meet our high expectations for quality in an efficient manner. 
  • Offer sincere thanks to our guests upon completion of their visit.
  • Always strive to show genuine concern to guests. Be generous and creative while troubleshooting a problem alongside a guest. 


DRINK QUALITY & EDUCATION:  

A core value of Sweet Bloom Coffee Roasters is the Craft of Coffee. Our sourcing team goes to great lengths to develop meaningful relationships with coffee producers seeking out the best coffees possible. We take great pride in working with these grower's carefully managed harvests roasting each coffee to exacting standards for sweetness, complexity and balance. Each cup is a blend of art, science and community that we look forward to serving. 


DRINK QUALITY & EDUCATION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in training in the Coffee Lab, coffee cuppings, tea tastings, and sensory exercises on a regular basis. 
  • Maintain product knowledge to confidently and consistently communicate information to guests. Our coffee offerings are highly seasonal and each barista is expected to know each coffee on our shelf. 
  • Ensure proper and consistent presentation of food and beverage items.
  • Educate customers on products emphasizing their quality and freshness. When applicable and available, share producer information with guests. 
  • Our baristas are highly encouraged to keep current on industry trends, participate in community industry events when possible and pursue further coffee and tea education through self-study and in-house training. 
  • Any barista that expresses interest in competition will be offered the opportunity to explore further training and development in this area. 


OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and passion for each aspect of your work.
  • Present yourself with a pleasant disposition and sense of urgency towards serving our guests and staff. Maintain a collected and pleasant demeanor during periods of high volume. 
  • Take initiative with daily tasks working alongside other baristas to fully complete daily shift tasks before the completion of each shift. 
  • Work alongside your Cafe Manager and Barista team to train new Baristas. This may include teaching a training Barista how to complete tasks and checklists, or being a point person for a training barista’s shadow shifts. Any barista scheduled as the point person for a new barista training shift will receive an additional $1 per hour for scheduled training shifts. 
  • Communicate promptly, effectively and honestly giving and receiving feedback using constructive methods. 
  • Keep all work, storage, retail, and cafe areas clean, stocked, well organized, and properly maintained.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Be creative and logical in problem solving utilizing available resources to fill a need. 
  • Demonstrate responsible cash handling procedures that comply with Sweet Bloom's Standard Procedures. 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ROLE:

  • Employees are frequently required to stand for long periods of time, crouch, kneel, walk, reach and twist.
  • Employees are expected to use a keyboard or touchscreen device.
  • Employees are occasionally required to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally employees may be required to work more than 40 hours in a week to complete the required work.
  • The work environment is a retail environment directly interacting with customers and the general public.
  • The work atmosphere is moderately paced with regular occurrences of times of heavy customer volume and work demand.
  • Noise levels are generally moderate with regular occurrences of moderate to high volume.


Salary

$13.5 - $17 per hour
