Sunstone Therapies is the leader in the delivery of psychedelic-assisted therapy in the medical setting, focusing on the development and implementation of clinical trials today, and moving towards clinical delivery if and when therapies are approved. Sunstone Therapies is working to accelerate the on-the-ground learning and operations necessary to approve and scale psychedelic therapies in the medical setting. This unique opportunity provides practitioners with the ability to gain clinical experience in the research studies at Sunstone Therapies.
Job activities include but are not limited to:
- Engaging in clinical work with patients, supporting patients through their entire patient journey in psychedelic-assisted therapies including conducting clinical visits such as preparation, treatment, and integration sessions
- Operating within the protocol requirements for each study without deviation and completing research tasks in the timelines defined by the protocols
- Operating within the standard operating procedures at Sunstone, including clinical, documentation, and operational compliance
- Working collaboratively with the Sunstone team including therapists and research staff
- Working with and providing guidance and training where required to new trainee therapists
- Attending training and meetings essential to the role
- Participating in Clinical Supervision with experienced mentors and a peer community of therapists
- Serving as a thought partner in building a standard of psychedelic therapy supporting Sunstone’s vision
- Other tasks as outlined in the RSA (Research Services Agreement)
The successful candidate must demonstrate the following skills, experience, and competencies:
- Experience and Skills in Clinical Settings:
- Completion of Sunstone clinical trainee program (which can be provided to you) or equivalent clinical experience in psychedelic therapy.
- 5+ years of experience in licensed clinical settings (mental health and/or medical).
- Ability to develop strong therapeutic relationships with patients.
- Excellent therapeutic, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Outstanding ability to interact well with patients, their family members, colleagues, and staff.
- Relevant education, training, and experience, in mental health care, counseling, or psychological therapies.
- Knowledge of GCP (Good Clinical Practice) and GDP (Good Documentation Practice).
- Professionalism and Ethical Standards:
- High standards of integrity and ethics in clinical and teamwork.
- Approach to clinical care and teamwork with kindness, presence, adaptability, openness, and curiosity.
- Self-awareness, adaptability, and reflection to understand own limitations and biases.

- Must have and maintain one of the following: LCPC, LGPC, LCSW, PsyD, PhD or equivalent degree that allows you to legally provide psychotherapy and counseling in accordance with federal and local rules and regulations in the State of Maryland
Physical Requirements
- Visual acuity, speech recognition, speech clarity.
- Ability to lift, lower, push, pull, and retrieve objects weighing a minimum of 30 pounds including medical supplies and equipment and the transferring and repositioning of patients. Reasonable assistance may be requested when lifting, pushing, and/or pulling are undertaken which exceeds these minimum requirements.
Working Location
- All dosing sessions and many of the preparation and integration sessions require therapists to be on-site.
- Some preparation and integration sessions may be conducted remotely and some mandatory meetings for therapists may be attended remotely.
- As required, therapists will come into the clinic for training or meetings
- When travel is required, the consultant is responsible for covering their travel costs. There are some exceptions to this for certain studies/responsibilities and this will be communicated in the RSA.
Compensation
In the role of consultant therapist, the consultant will be reimbursed at the below rates.
These rates will apply to the billable activities outlined in the RSA.
If the consultant therapist begins as a trainee with Sunstone, these rates will be available following the completion of the trainee program. Sunstone does not charge for the trainee program and instead offers a smaller stipend of $30 per hour.
Consultant Therapist
$120 per hour for:
- Clinical time with patients
- Administrative and documentation time related to clinical work
$50 per hour for :
- Attending clinical and operations meetings as required
- Attending other mandatory meetings
