Sud Scrub Inc. Short-Form Scriptwriter Who Thinks Like a Director | TikTok, Reels, Shorts | Personal Care Brand Remote · Contractor Company website

We're looking for a creative short-form scriptwriter who knows how to turn ideas into videos people actually want to watch. You'll create TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts scripts with strong visual hooks, engaging storytelling, and detailed shot-by-shot directions. You'll work closely with our team to develop founder-led content, deliver 4–5 scripts per week, and refine scripts using actual audience retention data. We need someone who thinks like both a writer and a director, understands what keeps viewers watching, and can write natural dialogue that doesn't feel like an ad. We're looking to build a long-term working relationship with the right person.

Description

If you can write a short-form script where every single line and every single shot earns its place, keep reading. If you write the words and leave the visuals to the editor, this job isn't for you.

The Job

We need a short-form scriptwriter who is a master of three things: grabbing attention, holding it, and keeping it until the last frame.

You'll write short-form scripts for TikTok, Reels, and Shorts. There's no fixed length. A script runs exactly as long as the story needs and not one second more. Some will be 20 seconds. Some will be 90. Every one of them should feel fast.

But we don't want scripts. We want blueprints. Every script you hand us should be so clear that our team can film and edit it without asking a single question.

That means for every line, you tell us:

  • What's being said
  • What the viewer sees (shot, angle, action, prop, framing)
  • What's on screen as text
  • Roughly how long it holds before the next cut

Think of yourself as the writer and the director in one.

What You Must Be Great At

Visual hooks that stop the scroll

The first second is visual before it's verbal. You know how to open on an image, action, or pattern break that makes a thumb stop, then back it with a line that makes them stay.

Open loops, back to back

A loop can be a question, a curiosity gap, a tease, an unfinished thought, or a visual the viewer doesn't understand yet. You open one, pay it off, and open the next before the viewer has a reason to leave. Tension, payoff, new tension. The whole way through.

Visual pacing for short attention spans

You know the viewer is one second from swiping at all times. Visuals change fast. Every shot has a job. Nothing lingers unless lingering is the point.

Ruthless cutting

Length is earned, not filled. If a line or a shot doesn't move the story forward, you kill it. A 90 second script that never drags beats a 30 second script that does. And if the story can be told in 25 seconds, you tell it in 25.

Founder voice

Our founder is on camera. Casual, funny, direct. You write lines people actually say out loud, not lines that sound written.

What You'll Deliver

  • 4 to 5 short-form scripts per week after onboarding
  • 3 hook variants per script (visual + verbal)
  • Full shot-by-shot visual direction for every line
  • Rewrites based on retention graphs and drop-off points we share with you

You're a Fit If

  • You've written short-form scripts that hit real numbers, and you can show us
  • You naturally think in shots, not paragraphs
  • You understand retention mechanics: hooks, pattern interrupts, open loops, curiosity gaps, pacing
  • You know formats that work (myth vs truth, POV, product tests, listicles, reactions) and when to break them
  • You take feedback from data, not ego, and rewrite fast

Not a Fit If

  • Your scripts read like ads
  • Your visual notes say things like "b-roll of product"
  • You pad scripts to hit a length
  • You need long turnaround times

Bonus

  • Experience with creator-led or founder-led brands
  • Product content that sells without feeling salesy
  • You can help build repeatable series and formats

Rate & Trials

Tell us your rate per script in your proposal. Pay is based on experience and proven results, so back your rate with work that justifies it.

Here's how we hire:

  1. Paid trial: 1 script at your quoted rate, based on a real brief from us.
  2. Paid trial round two: if it's strong, 2 to 3 more scripts so we can see consistency and how you handle feedback.
  3. If both go well, we move to a long-term partnership.

Every trial is paid.

How to Apply

We read every proposal. Generic proposals get skipped. AI-written proposals get skipped too. If you can't write a few honest sentences about yourself in your own voice, you can't write in our founder's.

  1. Start your proposal with the word HOOKED so we know you read this.
  2. Pick any one of our TikToks. Rewrite the first 5 seconds: the line, the exact visual, and the on-screen text. This should take you 10 minutes if you're who we're looking for.
  3. Link the best short-form video you've scripted. Point to one specific moment in it (a hook, a loop, a cut, a line) and explain why it held attention or why the video took off. Include one stat that backs it up.
  4. Tell us your rate per script.
