ABOUT STEVENS FAMILY LAW, LLC

Stevens Family Law is a South Carolina boutique focused exclusively on complex family law matters. The firm is widely known and respected across the state — by attorneys and judges — for handling high-asset divorce, contested custody, and sophisticated statewide litigation with the attention and skill those cases deserve.

We are intentionally not a high-volume practice. Our attorneys carry a manageable caseload of meaningful cases across all 46 South Carolina counties. We take fewer cases so we can do each one well. Our attorneys are not expected to handle 75+ matters at once or bill 2,500 hours.

Built over 30 years of practice, the firm's reputation and referral network are well-established — the foundation is solid and the opportunity is real. The firm is newly named; the practice, the reputation, and the referral network are not. We are ready to bring on the right attorney to do great work alongside us and be part of what comes next.

WHAT SETS THIS OPPORTUNITY APART

•      Manageable caseload — quality work, not volume. No 75+ case dockets or 2,500 billable hour expectations.

•      Full support staff already in place: legal assistant, paralegal, receptionist, and file clerk. You practice law; they handle the rest.

•      Access to AAML training programs unavailable at most firms that are only open to attorneys at firms with AAML Fellows.

•      Cases referred by top family law attorneys from across the country — genuinely complex, high-stakes matters not found at most SC firms.

•      Statewide practice across all 46 SC counties, including international family law.

•      Collaborative, collegial team environment — our attorneys and team work closely together and genuinely enjoy the workplace.

•      Clear growth path: your own caseload first, then deeper collaboration on the most complex matters as trust and experience develop.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a full-time, in-office position at our Spartanburg, SC office. Attorneys work in the office daily when not in court or with clients — remote and hybrid arrangements are not available for this role.

The role has two components. First, you will handle your own caseload of SC family law matters, independently with guidance available whenever you want or need it. Second, as your abilities become evident and trust develops, you will collaborate on our firm's most complex and high-profile matters alongside our founder.

We are ideally looking for someone with 5+ years of SC family law experience who can step into their own cases from day one. Candidates with 3 - 4 years of demonstrated courtroom history will be considered — compensation is discussed individually and reflects experience.

If you are currently at another firm and have matters you can bring, we will make the transition work. Over time, the expectation is that you take on increasingly sophisticated matters.

RESPONSIBILITIES

•      Manage your own SC family law caseload independently, with firm support available as needed

•      Represent clients in cases involving high-asset divorce, equitable distribution, and complex financial issues

•      Handle contested child custody, visitation, relocation, and modification litigation in SC Family Court

•      Manage discovery in complex cases including financial records, business valuations, and expert witnesses

•      Appear independently in hearings, temporary hearings, contested trials, and mediations statewide

•      Advise clients on alimony, child support, contempt of court, and post-decree matters

•      Collaborate with our founder on high-complexity and high-profile referral matters as appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS

•      J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school

•      Active, good-standing SC Bar membership

•      5+ years of SC family law experience strongly preferred; 3 - 4 years with demonstrated courtroom history considered — compensation is discussed individually and reflects experience

•      Proven record of independent Family Court appearances: hearings, temporary hearings, contested trials, and/or mediations

•      Experience with financially complex divorce matters (high-asset, business interests, executive compensation) preferred

•      Strong organization, communication, written advocacy, and oral argument skills

•      Self-starter who manages cases and clients proactively and professionally

•      Collaborative by nature — comfortable and effective in a close-knit team environment

•      Ability to handle matters statewide across South Carolina

•      Must work in-office in Spartanburg, SC daily when not in court (remote/hybrid not available)

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

•      $100,000 - $120,000 base salary, commensurate with experience, plus performance-based bonus

•      401(k) with employer match

•      Health, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, and life insurance

•      Malpractice / professional liability insurance provided by the firm

•      Experienced support staff: paralegal, legal assistants, receptionist, etc.

•      CLE expenses covered for approved programs, including exclusive AAML programs only available to attorneys at firms with AAML Fellows

•      SC Bar dues and professional fees covered
