Stellaromics Inc. Senior Optomechanical Engineer Boston, MA · Full time

The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in designing and developing prototype hardware for a ground-breaking automated fluorescent microscopy system. This position requires broad optomechanical, analytical and logistical expertise to create reliable precision imaging systems that can be manufactured in volume. This role will interface with suppliers on technical design and timely integration of quality components that ultimately meets expected performance requirements. This role will also entail establishing quantitative test and diagnostic procedures for integrating a high-resolution imaging and precision motion system as well as ad hoc trouble shooting. Finally, the engineer will contribute to future products in all phases of product development.

Description

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain requirements and specifications for assigned modules.
  • Develop, build and debug prototype imaging systems that achieve expected requirements and specifications.
  • Interface with third party contract engineering and suppliers on technical design, specification, development and schedule to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of quality components.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, budgets, and timelines.
  • Develop assembly and acceptance test procedures.
  • Present findings and project updates to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records of design iterations, test results, and component specifications.
  • Work with cross-disciplinary team to develop new system concepts and demonstrate their feasibility.
  • Up to 25% travel to vendor and company sites as needed.

 

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field. PhD a plus.
  • Experience:
  • 7+ years of experience in optomechanical development and integration, in the context of microscopy or biomedical imaging systems.
  • Working knowledge of optical and mechanical CAD software (e.g., Zemax, SolidWorks).
  • Hands-on experience in assembling and aligning complex optical systems.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and OEM contracts.
  • Developing quantitative test procedures.
  • Success in a multi-disciplinary collaborative environment.
