This is a full-time on-site role in San Diego, CA for a Senior Firmware Engineer. The Sr. Firmware Engineer will join the Instrument Control Software (ICS) team and contribute to the development of the PyxaTM platform. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, build, test and deploy the Instrument Control Software and supporting infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute full software development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Lead firmware development for several custom PCBA’s that control the Pyxa instrument.
  • Develop / maintain application-level driver for custom boards and 3rd Party devices.
  • Work closely with ME and EE teams to develop and define requirements for PCBA’s.
  • Work with System Integration and Verification teams to enable testing / verification of device level functionality.
  • Develop service level UI for board test / troubleshooting.
  • Support manufacturing of PCBA’s by developing automated board level tests to verify individual board level functionality.


Requirements and Skills:

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related.
  • 5 years of experience developing instrument control software, thick client WPF, on the .NET platform.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in firmware development for embedded systems.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++.
  • Extensive experience with STM32 microcontrollers and associated development tools (e.g., STM32CubeMX, Keil, IAR) or related.
  • Strong understanding of embedded systems architecture and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Experience with communication protocols (e.g., UART, SPI, I2C, CAN).
  • Knowledge of hardware design and debugging tools (e.g., oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate technical concepts clearly.

  • Direct experience building microscopy control software
  • Experience with Cell Biology or Molecular biology.
