We are looking for a high energy hands-on technical leader who is passionate about developing and continuously improving the performance of the entire product system (automated fluorescent microscopy instrument, novel spatial biology assays, software). This leader will work in a collaborative and fast paced cross functional environment at the intersection of multiple functions. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated technical expertise at the system level across imaging, fluidics, and assay. Working to identify and eliminate sources of variability across the product system with a focus on the automated instrument. The ideal candidate will also have proven leadership capabilities in building and scaling an engineering team that continuously improves product performance.

Description

Responsibilities:

  • Initially, be a hands-on technical leader working to improve the performance of current automated fluorescence microscopy instruments with fluidics in the field.
  • Identify and quantify sources of variability across imaging, fluidics, assay, and software.
  • Develop an approach and process to systematically reduce variation using best practices in root cause analysis, statistics, and problem solving.
  • Create tools and methods to measure key sources of variation.
  • Lead and actively manage technical projects that drive improvements to the reliability and performance of an automated fluorescent microscopy instrument.
  • Create a systematic testing approach to verify design changes to instrument, assay, or software prior to implementation.
  • Verify improvements are sustainable by checking the effectiveness over time.
  • As the company scales, recruit, lead and manage a team of engineers in the development and on-market sustaining of innovative life science tools and technologies. Continue to be a player/coach in making improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Assay Development, Computational Biology, Engineering, and Manufacturing, to ensure successful product improvement, development and launch.
  • Support innovation and development of the next generation of products in development. 
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations in the development of life science tools.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or related field. PhD preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in systems engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing people. 
  • Strong background in life science tools or related industries.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and managing cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations in the life science tools sector.
  • Hands-on experience leading engineering programs and projects.
  • Expert level problem solving skills and knowledge of best practices including root cause analysis, FMEA, SPC, DOE, and Six Sigma.
