To shepherd a classroom of students and teach in a subject-specific capacity with excellent classroom management skills, self-control, a passion for the subject work being taught, time management skills to complete assignments and lessons within the given one-hour class block, and incredible communication skills (both verbal and written, to create a relationship with both staff, students and parents alike).
Position Objective:
At Southwest Christian Academy, our goal is to provide a Christ-centered education that equips students for both academic success and spiritual growth. We are seeking a passionate, dedicated, and skilled educator to lead a classroom of students in various subject areas. The ideal candidate will possess excellent classroom management skills, a deep passion for their subject, time management abilities, and strong communication skills (both verbal and written). This position requires the teacher to foster relationships with staff, students, and parents while creating an enriching learning environment.
Teaching Details:
Teachers at Southwest Christian Academy will instruct students in a variety of subjects, such as Bible, Math, History, and Language Arts, for grades 5 through 8. Classes are block-scheduled and pre-paced, allowing teachers to personalize lessons while adhering to a set curriculum. Teachers are responsible for finishing their lesson plans during their campus teaching days and should not assign homework for the subject at the end of the day. Strong classroom management is required, as well as the ability to encourage students spiritually and academically.
We value flexibility and a positive attitude in our teachers, and availability for substitute teaching during unscheduled campus time is a plus. Communication with the Campus Director, and parents is key to the success of this position.
Typically, teachers will teach 2-3 subjects they are passionate about and confident in. Each subject may be taught multiple times to different groups of students. Teachers can expect class sizes of 12-18 students.
Campus Days Commitments:
Southwest Christian Academy operates on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8:15 AM to 2:45 PM, with courses scheduled in one-hour blocks. Teachers will follow a pre-arranged schedule for classroom coverage. Teachers should also expect some light hours outside of class for grading or communication purposes.
We believe in fostering strong connections with both staff and parents, so teachers should expect to participate in office hours for approximately 30 minutes each week, where they will be available for meetings and communication.
Training and Annual Obligations:
Mandatory training is conducted each year before the school year begins in early August and is ongoing on a quarterly basis. These sessions will be scheduled in advance with clear dates provided. Virtual training will be available as needed, with completion expected by the first day of campus school. Teachers are also encouraged to attend weekly team-building meetings and events. Participation in company events and parties is encouraged to build a positive dynamic within the school community.
Weekly Requirements:
Teachers must provide content for the homeroom teacher’s weekly parent emails, keep real-time track of student attendance, behavior, and other needs using the systems provided. Teachers are also expected to be available for personal emails from parents concerning behavior or educational topics related to the subject they teach. Collaboration with parents is integral to shaping the character and academic progress of each student.
Additional Opportunities:
Compensation:
Compensation varies based on the specific position selected and the subjects taught. Each course has a set financial value, and teachers who serve as full-day instructors will be compensated based on the time commitment of their campus day(s). Additional opportunities with increased responsibilities may also lead to increased compensation.
