South Central Medical & Resource Center is seeking a detail-oriented and patient-focused Referrals and Records Associate to join our team. This role plays a key part in supporting patient care by managing referral processes and maintaining accurate medical records to ensure timely, high-quality service.



About the Role

The Referrals and Records Associate is responsible for coordinating patient referrals to specialists, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities, as well as managing and maintaining complete and compliant patient records. This position works closely with providers, patients, and external partners to ensure all necessary documentation and authorizations are completed accurately and on time.



Key Responsibilities

Referral Coordination

  • Coordinate patient referrals to specialists and other healthcare services.
  • Ensure patients receive timely, appropriate follow‑up care.
  • Gather and process all required documentation and authorizations.

Records Management

  • Maintain accurate, updated patient records including demographics, medical history, and treatment information.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality standards.
  • Scan, index, and upload documents into the electronic health record (EHR) system.

Communication

  • Serve as a key point of contact for patients, providers, and healthcare partners.
  • Provide patients with information about specialist services.
  • Respond to inquiries promptly and professionally and help resolve issues.

Data Entry

  • Input referral and record information into the EHR system with accuracy.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of referrals and patient demographic updates.

Authorization

  • Obtain prior authorizations for specialist services and procedures as required.
  • Ensure all necessary approvals are in place before services are provided.


Required Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting (referrals or records experience preferred).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational ability.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and basic computer applications.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Commitment to patient-centered service and professionalism.

Technology & Systems


  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems preferred
  • Athena EMR experience a plus

Work Schedule


  • Full-time position
  • Monday through Friday during standard business hours

 

Salary

$16 - $19 per hour
