The Director of Business Development leads strategic growth and community engagement initiatives for Solace Hospice of Southwest Virginia. This role develops and maintains relationships with referral sources, healthcare partners, and the broader community to promote awareness of hospice philosophy and Solace’s mission. The Director ensures that all marketing, outreach, and growth activities are conducted ethically, compassionately, and in accordance with hospice regulations.

Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·        Develop and implement strategic plans to grow patient census and community partnerships.

·        Build and maintain strong relationships with hospitals, nursing facilities, physicians, home health agencies, and community organizations.

·        Represent Solace Hospice at professional and community events, health fairs, and educational programs.

·        Educate referral sources and the public about hospice services, eligibility criteria, and the benefits of early hospice involvement.

·        Oversee marketing and communications efforts, ensuring consistency with Solace’s mission, values, and branding.

·        Supervise additional business development staff when applicable, providing mentorship, training, and oversight to ensure consistency in outreach and compliance.

·        Collaborate with the Executive Director and leadership team to identify growth opportunities and evaluate service needs within the community.

·        Track and report outreach activities, referral trends, and growth metrics to leadership and the Board of Directors.

·        Ensure all business development activities comply with federal and state hospice regulations and CMS guidelines.

·        Train staff and volunteers in compassionate communication and community engagement strategies.

·        Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of Solace Hospice.

Qualifications

·        Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare administration, marketing, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.

·        Minimum of three (3) years of healthcare business development, marketing, or community relations experience required (hospice or home health experience strongly preferred).

·        Deep understanding of hospice philosophy, compliance, and ethical outreach practices.

·        Strong relationship-building, communication, and presentation skills.

·        Proven ability to plan, execute, and evaluate growth strategies.

·        Proficiency in CRM systems, data analysis, and reporting preferred.

·        Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and current automobile insurance required.

Physical Requirements

·        Must be able to lift and carry materials up to 25 pounds.

·        Requires frequent local travel to referral sources, facilities, and community events.

·        Must be able to drive and work in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, ice, or other forms of inclement weather.

Salary

$90,000 - $95,000 per year
