Softek LLC is recruiting a skilled Data Engineering Specialist to design and implement data models for IRS. This role is central to modernizing how the IRS manages and utilizes taxpayer data, supporting critical government operations and enhancing data-driven decision making across the organization.

Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Architecture: Design logical and physical data models for implementation in enterprise data lake architecture
  • Model Development: Create unified data models for assigned data domains in both domain stores and universal data hubs
  • Platform Implementation: Develop data structures optimized for Databricks, AWS DynamoDB, and other cloud platforms
  • Data Integration: Design schemas supporting medallion architecture (bronze, silver, gold layers)
  • Performance Optimization: Ensure data models support high-performance analytics and real-time data access
  • Documentation: Create comprehensive data model documentation, lineage tracking, and metadata management
  • Collaboration: Work closely with data pipeline developers, analysts, and business stakeholders
  • Standards Compliance: Ensure all data models meet IRS security, privacy, and governance requirements
  • Legacy Integration: Design interfaces between modern cloud platforms and legacy mainframe systems

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years developing data models for data lake architectures in large-scale environments
  • Project Experience: Demonstrated experience with at least 2 projects similar in size and scope to federal data platforms
  • Technical Skills: Expert-level knowledge of dimensional modeling, data vault methodology, and modern data architecture patterns
  • Platform Expertise: Hands-on experience with Databricks, AWS data services, and cloud-native data platforms
  • Database Knowledge: Strong background in both SQL and NoSQL database technologies
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications: Databricks Certified Data Engineer, AWS Data Analytics certifications
  • Government Experience: Previous work with federal agencies, particularly tax or financial systems
  • Advanced Modeling: Experience with graph databases, streaming data architectures, and real-time analytics
  • Tools Expertise: Proficiency with Informatica MDM, IBM Data Architect, or similar enterprise tools

Technical Environment

  • Data Platforms: Databricks Delta Lake, AWS S3, Redshift, DynamoDB, Aurora
  • Integration Tools: Informatica PowerCenter, AWS DMS, Databricks ETL
  • Governance: Informatica EDC, Axon, Immuta for data catalog and governance
  • Legacy Systems: DB2, COBOL, JCL integration requirements
