K–12 Art Teacher (Part-time, 0.3 FTE)

The K–12 Art Teacher serves a vital role in cultivating students’ appreciation for beauty, truth, and goodness through the visual arts. This position integrates art instruction with the school's classical, Christ-centered curriculum, guiding students to create projects that deepen their understanding of the historical period studied each year. The Art Teacher helps students develop technical skill, artistic discernment, historical awareness, and creativity.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Teach art classes for students in accordance with the school's curriculum and educational philosophy.
  • Coordinate art projects that reinforce and enrich the school's annual history cycle, helping students engage more deeply with the people, ideas, and artistic traditions of each era.
  • Instruct students in a variety of artistic techniques, media, and skills appropriate to their developmental levels.
  • Adapt instruction and expectations appropriately for students across the grammar, logic, and rhetoric stages.
  • Help students understand how art reflects history, culture, worldview, and faith.
  • Introduce students to significant artists, artistic movements, and masterpieces, fostering appreciation for the artistic traditions of the Church, Western civilization, and cultures throughout the world.
  • Encourage habits of patience, craftsmanship, diligence, and excellence in artistic work.
  • Foster an orderly, encouraging, and creative classroom environment that promotes both artistic growth and character development.
  • Evaluate student work and provide constructive feedback that supports growth in skill, understanding, and craftsmanship.
  • Prepare classroom materials, manage supplies, and maintain an organized and safe art studio environment.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and administration to support the school's curriculum, scope, and sequence.
  • Prepare student artwork for exhibitions, showcases, and school events that celebrate student achievement and learning.
  • Participate in school events and faculty activities as appropriate.
  • Support the mission, values, and Christian character of the school in all interactions with students, parents, and staff.

Qualifications and Expectations

  • Profess and model a sincere Christian faith and support the school's Statement of Faith, mission, and educational philosophy.
  • Demonstrate a love for students and a passion for teaching from a classical Christian worldview.
  • Serve as a Christlike role model in character, speech, and conduct.
  • Possess strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Maintain professional standards of conduct, collaboration, and confidentiality.
  • Work effectively with students, parents, faculty, and administration.
  • Bachelor's degree in Art, Art Education, or a related field preferred.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with classical Christian education, or a willingness to learn and embrace its philosophy, strongly preferred.

Salary

$10,800 - $16,800 per year
