To support the delivery of consistent youth coaching and educational support to diverse adolescent clients between the ages of 7 and 18, involved with mental health, public school, court, and juvenile justice systems. To establish and maintain strong working relationships with SOAR staff, youth, families, and other key figures through regular communication and timely documentation.
Seeing Our Adolescents Rise (SOAR) is a community-based organization that is known for working outside of the box with multicultural and marginalized youth, ages 7-19, using innovative and comprehensive approaches. SOAR provides coaching/mentorship, education support, community service opportunities, events & activities, and adventure therapy to a population whose needs influence their ability to live day-to-day. The vast majority of the youth in SOAR programming have been involved with the juvenile justice system and are getting back on track with guided support from SOAR.
SOAR believes our mission to encourage young adults to invest in their future, helping them to become responsible and motivated advocates for their life is the stepping stone to strengthening our community for our youth. We do this through our vision of providing services that guide adolescents toward successful future endeavors and encourage them to stay focused regardless of unfavorable influences or circumstances. Additionally, our programs work with our youth’s families supporting advocacy within the education system and the community at large. SOAR realized the importance of integrating youth and their families into the services we offer. We invite our youth’s siblings, cousins, friends, and other family to participate in SOAR community events and adventure activities alongside them to increase positivity within their support system.
SOAR's Youth Coach & Educational Specialist:
SOAR's Youth Coach & Educational Specialist responsibilities include providing services to assigned youth, depending on the needs indicated in the referral. These services can include but are not limited to, education support, coaching/mentorship, community engagement, and/or community service opportunities. The SOAR team member will be responsible for working to connect and meet with assigned youth and families immediately upon receiving the internal referral. The team member will work toward developing and building long-term positive relationships within the youth’s community which will focus on strengthening areas in the youth’s life possibly relating to issues within the home, education, employment, and/or lack of community engagement. For youth referred for education support, the team member will work alongside assigned youth and families to assist with navigating different aspects of technology in regards to accessing, understanding and completing school work in different school subjects. In addition, the team member will assist the youth in developing the courage and ability to advocate for oneself through goal setting and monitoring, scheduling and conducting regular meetings (typically in-person unless the family requests virtual) and check-ins via text, phone and email. The team member will observe and document the client’s progress, report progress to the supervisor, and communicate with the client's professional team as needed.
