Overview

Build your counseling career while helping children and families move forward at Small Talk Pediatric Therapy.

We’re looking for a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate who enjoys connecting with children, adolescents, and families. Working under qualified clinical supervision, you’ll provide individualized mental health care, develop your clinical skills, and contribute to a collaborative pediatric team.

Bring your curiosity, compassion, and willingness to learn—we’d love to meet you.

Description

Small moments. Big milestones.

Helping a child name a feeling. Practicing a coping skill together. Building trust with a teenager. Supporting a caregiver through a difficult season.

At Small Talk, these moments matter. As an LMHCA, you’ll help children and adolescents navigate emotional, behavioral, and social challenges while growing your confidence and skills as a counselor.

We’re building a practice where great care and a sustainable career grow together. That means listening to clinicians, sharing ideas across disciplines, partnering with families, and continually improving how we work.

We want you to help shape that practice.

What makes Small Talk different

  • Time for the work beyond the session. Our standard full-time therapist schedule includes up to 35 hours of scheduled direct care and 5 hours for documentation and other responsibilities within a 40-hour workweek.
  • Options for your workweek. Choose from four 10-hour days or five 8-hour days, coordinated with clinic and patient needs.
  • Collaboration as you develop. Bring questions, discuss clinical observations, and apply feedback through your supervisory relationship and team collaboration.
  • A broader pediatric perspective. Work alongside colleagues across mental health, speech, occupational therapy, and physical therapy.
  • A voice in how we grow. Share your ideas for improving the experience of children, families, and staff.
  • Support for your development. Build your skills through collaboration and annual continuing education and licensing assistance.

Your role

You’ll provide counseling within your associate license and supervision requirements, creating a supportive environment where children and adolescents can feel heard and work toward meaningful goals.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting mental health assessments and developing individualized treatment plans under appropriate clinical supervision.
  • Providing evidence-based counseling suited to each client’s age, developmental needs, strengths, and goals.
  • Helping children and adolescents develop emotional regulation, coping, communication, and relationship skills.
  • Involving parents and caregivers when clinically appropriate to support progress beyond the session.
  • Recognizing safety concerns, promptly consulting your supervisor, and following established safety and escalation procedures.
  • Participating in clinical supervision, bringing questions and concerns forward, and incorporating feedback into your work.
  • Collaborating with other professionals involved in the child’s care while maintaining appropriate consent and confidentiality.
  • Maintaining timely, accurate assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and other clinical documentation.
  • Maintaining required records of supervised experience as you work toward independent licensure.

Who we’re looking for

You approach children and families with empathy, respect, and curiosity. You’re ready to learn, comfortable asking for guidance, and committed to developing thoughtful clinical judgment.

You’ll need:

  • A master’s degree in counseling or a related field that meets LMHCA licensure requirements.
  • Current LMHCA licensure, or eligibility to obtain the appropriate associate license before starting clinical work.
  • Foundational assessment, treatment planning, and counseling skills.
  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with families and colleagues.
  • A commitment to ethical, individualized, evidence-based care and participation in required clinical supervision.

Experience working with children, adolescents, and families is welcome, but not required. New graduates are encouraged to apply.

Clinical supervision arrangements, supervisor qualifications, and how supervised experience applies toward independent licensure will be discussed during the hiring process.

Benefits

Our full-time benefits include:

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with up to a 3.5% company match.
  • 80 hours of paid time off, prorated in the first year.
  • Eight paid holidays.
  • $250 annually toward continuing education and licensing.
  • Company-paid professional liability insurance.
  • Company-paid short-term disability and group term life insurance.
  • A company laptop.

Benefits are subject to applicable eligibility requirements and plan terms.
