The Solutions Architect ensures shared technical understanding between stakeholders and the production team. They own discovery and delivery, guiding architectural direction and ensuring solutions are built with scalability and best practices in mind. As an advocate for the production team, they help maintain alignment with stakeholder expectations while supporting code quality and delivery standards. Though primarily focused on design and oversight, they may contribute to development when needed.

Description

Key Roles (3-5)

1. Production Planning and Discovery

Owns the translation of business goals into actionable technical plans and facilitates alignment between all parties before production begins.


Responsibilities:

  • Acts as the bridge between clients, Product Owners, and development teams to ensure shared technical understanding.
  • Helps lead Discovery Sprints with clients:
  • Participates in discovery sessions to clarify objectives and constraints.
  • Creates system and design diagrams to visualize architecture and integrations.
  • Refines backlog items to clarify business and technical requirements.
  • Helps lead Sprint Planning with the client and/or team:
  • Assigns point values to stories that require technical input and helps the team size them accurately.
  • Sources existing or ready-made solutions and sub-components from the Product Oracle.
  • Works closely with the Product Owner to shape epics and stories into clear, feasible scope.
  • Provides architectural guidance to ensure developers follow SLTWTR standards and leverage existing components appropriately.
  • Makes key decisions around Epic Branches vs. Feature Branches to support efficient version control and delivery.


2. Technical Delivery Oversight

Owns the architectural integrity, technical execution, and overall quality of production work. Ensures that the development approach, code standards, and solution outcomes align with SLTWTR’s best practices and stakeholder expectations.


Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the Production Team throughout the sprint to support correct technical approach and maintain architectural alignment.
  • Provides hands-on support during development, clarifying implementation details and validating technical feasibility as work progresses.
  • Conducts code and solution reviews to ensure quality, scalability, and adherence to SLTWTR standards.
  • Performs Demo Engineering, rapidly prototyping low-fidelity solutions or proof-of-concepts to guide production and visualize functionality for clients.
  • Leads Holistic Technical Project Reviews at key milestones to evaluate architecture, integrations, and delivery quality across all active initiatives.
  • Identifies risks, dependencies, and technical debt early, proposing solutions or adjustments to maintain project health.
  • Maintains accountability for ensuring all deliverables meet the intended technical design and acceptance criteria.


3. Technical Delivery

Owns the technical delivery of production work to the client, ensuring releases are stable, documented, and properly transitioned into both client operations and SLTWTR’s internal solution catalog.


Responsibilities:

  • Owns technical delivery to the client, ensuring all completed work meets architectural, functional, and quality standards.
  • Collaborates with the Product Owner to support technical handoff and communicate release readiness.
  • Oversees branch merging and deployment processes, ensuring smooth, traceable releases aligned with sprint schedules.
  • Partners with the Product Owner to manage delivery and release planning, aligning technical dependencies with business priorities.
  • Maintains technical documentation for delivered work, ensuring clarity for internal and client stakeholders.
  • Hands off new components, patterns, or reusable features to the Product Oracle for cataloging and future reuse.


Qualifications

  • Proven experience architecting Shopify solutions at scale.
  • Platform expertise with Shopify’s ecosystem (theme, GraphQL, Checkout Extensibility, POS, Flow, integrations)and peripherals (Gadget, SearchSpring, Nosto, etc)
  • Experience with partners ecosystem (Gadget, SearchSpring, Nosto, Klaviyo, YotPo, etc)
  • Experience with ERP integrations, data migration, and ETL tools.
  • Ability to consume stakeholder vision, convert to technical Acceptance Criteria and development plan.
  • Strong system design and diagramming skills (progressive documentation).
  • Comfort and experience with ETL tools (Pipedream, Mulesoft, etc)
  • Expert level in Liquid and JavaScript (capable of reviewing, guiding, and occasionally contributing).
