SkillUp is seeking a Head of Engineering to lead a high-impact engineering team responsible for building and evolving the technology platform that powers career navigation for millions of STARs. As SkillUp accelerates its investment in AI-powered career navigation, this leader will own the engineering and technical AI strategy, guide the engineering implementation of AI capabilities, and effectively lead senior AI technical talent to ensure our AI systems are secure, scalable, and deliver measurable impact. This is a player-coach leadership role responsible for engineering execution, technical strategy, platform reliability, engineering operations, and team development. While you'll occasionally contribute hands-on to solve complex technical challenges, your primary focus will be leading people, shaping architecture, and building the engineering capabilities needed to support SkillUp's long-term growth Reporting to the CEO, you'll partner closely with the Head of Product to translate product vision into scalable, reliable technology solutions that advance SkillUp's mission. You'll lead SkillUp’s engineering function, a team that includes an internal engineer, senior AI technical talent and a team of nearshore engineers, fostering a high-performing engineering culture while ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery. The ideal candidate is a pragmatic engineering leader who thrives in lean, mission-driven environments. You're comfortable making architecture decisions, overseeing DevOps and platform operations, managing distributed engineering teams, and balancing short-term delivery with long-term technical investment. You know when to dive into the code, but you're equally skilled at enabling others to do their best work through coaching, technical leadership, and strong engineering practices.

Compensation & Benefits
Target salary for this position is $175,000–$200,000, depending on experience, geography, and internal equity.
