Operation Research and Optimization Specialist

The Optimization specialist plays a key role in solving our partners’ business problem by using Optimization, Data Science, Simulation, Mathematics, Statistics, and the best tools available. They work with the solution owner (solution architect) to design and develop powerful optimization model solutions as a whole, or as a component along other technologies such as simulation, artificial Intelligence (AI) and industrial internet of things (IIOT). They also work closely with software developers and simulation engineers to ensure faultless alignment between the various components of systems and solutions we deploy for our partners.

100% remote (WFH) – Monday to Friday – Flexible hours– Competitive salary to be discussed.


Main tasks and responsibilities

·       Develop and implement scalable mathematical models and collaborate with other engineers to deploy these models.

·       Use optimization techniques to formulate, solve business problems and build strategic/tactic decision-support solutions and operational digital twins.

·       Apply Linear Programming, Integer Programming, Dynamic Programming and Network Optimization algorithms to design optimal or near optimal solutions.

·       Ability to design and develop custom algorithms and heuristics.

·       Apply decomposition methods as needed to solve very large-scale models.

·       Investigate the conflict behind infeasible datasets and add appropriate handling to resolve such infeasibilities.

·       Perform quality and performance assessments of solutions

·       Lead requirement and systems analysis efforts, including translating business requirements into quantitative mathematical models.

·       Write technical documents (functional specifications, design documents, etc.) as needed

·       Support end users on the delivered solutions

Requirements for the position

·       Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Operations Research, Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or Quantitative Methods and/or relevant experience commensurate to the role.

·       Demonstrated experience in applying Operations Research, advanced analytical and/or statistical methods to solve business problems.

·       Knowledge or interest in technologies including simulation, optimization, artificial intelligence, business intelligence and IIoT (Industrial Internet of things)

·       Fluent and professional English (both written and spoken). Colleagues will be from the United Stated, Canada, Asia and the Middle East.


Skills required

·       Demonstrated experience with applying theories of mathematical optimization, including Linear Programming, Integer Programming, Dynamic Programming and Network Optimization algorithms

·       Proficiency in using at least one commercial or open-source solver such as Cplex, Gurobi, Coin-OR or SCIP.

·       Fluency in at least one programming or scripting language (e.g. Python, R, Java, C, C++, C#)

·       Analytical skills

·       Ability to work in a team

·       Ability to work in a constantly changing environment


Assets (not mandatory) for the position

·       Working experience in Java

·       Working experience with database systems / SQL

·       Experience developing visualizations in tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, or Shiny

·       Experience in an agile development environment
