The data engineer plays a key role within the development team in charge of technological solutions. He works with the solution owner (solution architect) to design and develop data pipelines, data integration solutions and databases that support simulation models or digital twins. He also works closely with software developers and simulation engineers to ensure faultless alignment between the various components of systems and solutions. The database engineer could also perform the administration and maintenance of cloud computing resources and propose technical recommendations in terms of technological architecture. 

100% remote (WFH) – Monday to Friday – Flexible 37.5 hours per week – Competitive salary to be discussed. 

Main tasks and responsibilities 

  • Identify needs and design databases or data warehouses 
  • Develop SQL databases or data warehouses 
  • Work closely with the solution owner in the design of the architecture and give technologies recommendations according to the business needs 
  • Develop ETL pipelines and data ingestion solutions 
  • Ensure the evolution and continuous improvement of databases and cloud resources 
  • Develop access models in line with cybersecurity principals 
  • Monitor server health and performance 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to ensure business continuity 
  • Support users for data management

Minimum requirements for the position 

  • Advanced written and spoken professional English – You’ll have colleagues in Quebec, the rest of Canada, the United Stated, Asia and the Middle East. 
  • University in a relevant field 
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in analytics database development, ETL pipelines development, or a combination of experiences 
  • Knowledge and interest in Azure Data Factory or other data ingestion and integration technologies such as Azure Synapse  
  • Knowledge of BI principles 
  • Knowledge of software development concepts 
  • Mastery of the Office Suite 
  • Interest in technologies including simulation, optimization, artificial intelligence, business intelligence and IIoT (Industrial Internet of things) 

Skills required 

  • Ability to understand and participate in data modeling 
  • Experience with SQL Server and/or cloud computing (Azure platform or others) 
  • Ability to develop robust databases and manage them 
  • Powerful in SQL / T-SQL (Views, Functions, Stored Proc, etc.) 
  • Skilled in optimizing SQL queries and troubleshooting 
  • Ability in programming (ex: Python, R, Scala, C# or Java) 
  • Analytical skills 
  • Ability to manage tasks according to priorities 
  • Ability to work in a team. 
  • Ability to work under pressure. 
  • Ability to manage several projects at the same time. 
  • Interest in working in a constantly changing environment 

Assets (not mandatory) for the position 

  • Experience in Agile development. 
  • Knowledge of Hadoop and Spark 
  • Experience in developing and maintaining a data warehouse or data lake 
  • Experience in simulation, software development or another technological field. 
  • Experience with PowerBi, Power Pivot or Tableau. 
  • Knowledge of quantitative/statistical methods.
