SimpleConsign and its parent company, Emporia, empower over 4,000 consignment stores with inventory management, merchandising, analytics, and point-of-sale solutions.   


Job Summary:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Business Development Intern to join our team. This intern will play a critical role in supporting the development of a new business venture aimed at helping our consignment stores source inventory while simultaneously solving a critical pain-point for apparel brands and retailers with excess inventory. The retail industry produces over $1T of excess or returned merchandise every year and contributes more than 9.5 billion pounds of waste to landfills annually. Our solution aims empower our consignment store customers with new inventory while also minimizing the climate impact of waste.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Market Research: conduct primary and secondary research with consignment store owners, retailers, and apparel brands to identify current solutions for managing excess inventory. Analyze trends, business processes, and competitive landscape.
  • Demand Generation: identify potential customers within SimpleConsign’s customer base who will try new methods of inventory source. Meet with customers to understand needs such as inventory demand, brand preferences, and pricing.
  • Partner Development: identify potential brand and retailer partners and perform outreach to better understand excess inventory problems and reverse supply chain solutions.
  • Solution Development: work with the SimpleConsign team to identify technological solutions and/or partners to help connect retailers/brands with SimpleConsign’s customer base.



Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Economics, Business, Marketing, Sales, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in business development, sales, and technology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite (Excel/Word/PowerPoint or Docs/Sheets/Slides).
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.


Salary

$25 - $25 per hour
