About Shredder Bend

Shredder Bend is Oregon's first year-round indoor ski and snowboard gym dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of snow sports to children. Shredder offers classes for children ranging from 10 months to 10 years old. Our classes cover fundamental ski/snowboard skills, along with coordination and developmental activities to build strength and balance. Shredder utilizes indoor slopes with tailored PSIA-AASI curriculum designed to help kids develop the technical skills of skiing and snowboarding in a fun and supportive environment.

Role Description

 

Join our dynamic team as an Indoor Ski & Snowboard Instructor, where your passion for winter sports and teaching will inspire countless children of various ages and ability levels. In this role, you will deliver engaging, safe, and progressive instruction on skiing and snowboarding techniques within a comfortable indoor environment.


 

What You’ll Do

  • Lead engaging ski and snowboard lessons tailored to participants’ ages, abilities, and learning goals.
  • Demonstrate proper techniques for balance, turning, stopping, and safety procedures on indoor slopes.
  • Manage participant behavior effectively using positive reinforcement.
  • Assist with equipment fitting, safety gear checks, and ensuring proper use of all instructional tools.
  • Build relationships with Shredder families, leading welcome/closing class announcement to promote Shredder and provide coaching feedback to get parents excited for their next class.
  • Support the overall operation of the gym by maintaining cleanliness and organization of the teaching area.


Position Requirements

  • Must be physically able to lift/assist children to help them control speed and balance on the indoor slopes.
  • Maintain high energy, patience and a positive attitude throughout the entire class period, continuously encouraging students and providing clear, constructive feedback.
  • Independently manage a class of young children with a wide range of abilities — keeping every student engaged and progressing without losing sight of the group.
  • Ensure the safety of children at all times, following Shredder's safety policies and procedures.
  • Represent Shredder with the utmost integrity and professionalism.


 What we're looking for

  • You have experience working with children (ideally ages 3-10 years old). If you've taught, coached, run a classroom, or worked a summer camp, that's more important than how well you ski or ride.
  • General knowledge of skiing and/or snowboarding fundamentals and willing to learn our program curriculum. Technical certifications are a plus
  • You're reliable. Families plan their week around us, so showing up on time matters.
  • You have strong group management skills with the ability to build rapport with children.
  • You're comfortable speaking with parents about their child's progress and program announcements.


Compensation & Benefits

  •       Starting pay $20-22/hour (DoE)
  •       Flexible part time schedule including weekends (20-30 hrs /week)
