The Children’s Minister at Shearer Hills Baptist Church (SHBC) is responsible for the development and implementation of the Children’s Ministry (K-5th) in order to effectively help children and families learn about and experience the love of God, grow in personal faith, and actively participate in sharing the gospel. The Children’s Minister will work in collaboration with the staff, volunteers, families, and ministry leaders of SHBC and will report to the Senior Pastor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides vision, leadership, planning, and implementation for the all facets of Children’s Ministry, including weekly ministries and annual events.
- Manages staff and volunteers, develops job descriptions, interviews candidates, recruits volunteers, and provides appropriate training.
- Oversees the selection of curriculum and programming.
- Responsible for effective administration between the Children’s Ministry including budget and finances, policies, care of preschool facilities and equipment (with Church Administrator), and safety and security processes (with Director, ELC & Preschool Ministry).
- Utilizes effective communication to keep staff, volunteers, and parents informed.
- Manages communications between ministries that interact with the Children’s Ministry.
- Offers pastoral care and encouragement for staff, volunteers, families, and children.
- Effectively coordinate and communicate with appropriate church committees as needed to ensure goals are being met and operations are running efficiently.
- Attend staff meetings and become a member of SHBC.
- Must agree with SHBC statement of faith; willingness and ability to exhibit SHBC values every day.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Experience, and Requirements:
- Preferred seminary degree in a relative field or equivalent experience.
- Prefer five years of experience as a Children’s Minister.
- Passion for ministry to children and seeing both parents and preschoolers grow in their faith.
- Growing relationship with Jesus Christ evidenced by action, attitude, and behavior.
- Proven administrative and leadership skills in a team environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills in relationships with staff, volunteers, families, children, and the community.
- Demonstrate reliability, trustworthiness, initiative, and follow through on details.
- Embrace innovation and creativity while adapting to growth and change.
- Exhibit appropriate judgment, discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
- Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, both independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Proficiently operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer for extended periods of time.
- The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
- Must be able to occasionally lift items weighing up to 25 pounds across office and load onto shelves for various needs.
