We are looking for Instructors for our Tour of the Trades Program to join our Workforce Development Program Team. She Built This City has a goal of training hundreds of women in our community and we need experienced trade professionals to lead them through our 9 week course. Each trades professional will be paired with a She Built This City staff member to support administrative tasks and successful execution of the course. Curriculum, lesson plans and materials provided.

Our Vision is to dismantle barriers and stigmas in traditionally male-dominated industries through innovative, sustainable practices that prepare us for a future of jobs that have yet to be created. What We Do She Built This City provides the following programs / services: Explorer Kids / Camps ( Youth Ages 7-17 / Adult Team Building) We have a portfolio of 30 - 40 builds that provide hands-on learning experiences / exposure to the trades. We can host up to 20 youth at any one of these individual builds. Community Projects / Builds We can work with schools / community partners to build projects that would be beneficial to the community as a whole. While we can customize solutions, here are some of the options: Picnic Tables Giant Scrabble or Jenga Game Set Garden Beds Shed SBTC Adult Workforce Development We need more on-ramps for women in the trades and we need to take new approaches for training to address the widening gap for women. It is our goal to get women to work as quickly as possible. She Built This City is committed to addressing this problem with our Pre-Apprenticeship Training and Women’s Repair Crew Apprenticeship.

The Role

We are looking for  various Trades Instructors to join our team!  Whether you can commit, one day a week, one hour a week or one day a month, there’s a place for you at She Built This City. We need experienced professionals to support our Critical Home Repair initiatives in the community, provide in class instruction for our trainees as well as support new homeowners and other community members in our new weekend warrior program.  Day, night and weekend opportunities available.  We are looking for individuals with confirmed expertise in one or more skilled trades areas.  



Essential Functions:

  • Provides training and hands-on experience to participants in SBTCs Weekend Warrior Program, Staff Members, Apprentices and / or pre-apprentices  based on confirmed area of expertise (as defined by years of experience and / or certifications) Some examples include:  Safety, Tools, Construction Math, Carpentry, Estimating, Materials, HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, tile, wall paper, tool knowledge, home maintenance, etc.. 
  • Instruction can include both workshop and simulation / off site explorations / field trips.. 
  • Encourage and exemplify professionalism and  good work habits
  • Provide participants with technical instruction in a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Create / revise lesson plans as needed
  • Teach and actively supervise construction skills 
  • Teach and supervise the necessary safety procedures for use and handling of equipment & tools and clean up of the construction area through demonstration and modeling skills
  • Be positive and active ambassador of She Built This City, it’s mission, participants and programs


Minimum Qualifications

  • At least two (2) years of experience with an in-depth understanding of construction procedures and material and project management principles (education may be substituted by experience on a year-for-year basis)
  • Experience training others in construction trades (formally or informally)
  • Knowledge of basic building codes and construction site safety procedures
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize effective communication skills
  • Experience working with and ability to be sensitive to a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, gender diverse populations
  • Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision
  • Ability to work effectively as a part of a team
  • Google Docs / Google Suite familiarity a plus

Salary

$25 - $32 per hour
