Essential Functions
Marketing & Communications Strategy
- Develop and implement an annual external engagement, marketing, and communications strategy aligned with organizational goals.
- Evaluate current communications efforts and identify opportunities for increased visibility and engagement.
- Develop communication plans supporting participant recruitment, fundraising initiatives, community engagement, and organizational growth.
- Ensure consistency of messaging, branding, and storytelling across all channels.
Brand Management
- Serve as the steward of the She Built This City brand.
- Maintain consistent messaging, visual identity, and organizational voice.
- Develop and manage organizational marketing assets and communication templates.
- Ensure all communications reflect the mission, vision, and values of SBTC.
Content Creation & Storytelling
- Develop and manage an annual content strategy.
- Capture participant, alumni, volunteer, employer, donor, and partner success stories.
- Create compelling written, visual, and digital content that demonstrates impact.
- Coordinate photography, videography, and content collection efforts.
- Develop newsletters, impact reports, blogs, participant spotlights, and success stories.
Digital Marketing & Communications
- Manage organizational social media platforms.
- Develop and maintain content calendars.
- Create and schedule digital content.
- Monitor engagement and audience growth.
- Manage website content and updates.
- Create and distribute email marketing campaigns and newsletters.
- Utilize analytics to evaluate performance and recommend improvements.
Podcast Strategy & Management
- Lead planning, coordination, promotion, and management of the SBTC podcast.
- Develop podcast themes aligned with organizational priorities.
- Coordinate guest recruitment and scheduling.
- Highlight participant journeys, alumni stories, employer partnerships, and workforce development outcomes.
- Repurpose podcast content into social media, newsletters, marketing materials, and donor communications.
Public Relations & Executive Communications
- Support organizational public relations and media engagement efforts.
- Develop talking points, briefing materials, presentations, and key messages for organizational leadership.
- Assist the CEO, staff, board members, alumni, and program participants in preparing for speaking engagements, panel discussions, podcasts, conferences, media interviews, and community events.
- Draft press releases, media advisories, award nominations, and public statements.
- Coordinate media inquiries and maintain relationships with local media outlets, industry publications, and community partners.
- Identify opportunities for earned media, thought leadership, conference presentations, and organizational recognition.
- Maintain a library of organizational messaging, impact data, talking points, and success stories.
Volunteer Engagement
- Develop communications strategies supporting volunteer recruitment and retention.
- Coordinate volunteer appreciation and recognition initiatives.
- Support promotion of volunteer opportunities.
- Collaborate with program and operations teams to ensure volunteers remain informed and engaged.
Corporate & Community Partner Engagement Support
- Support communications and recognition efforts for sponsors, corporate partners, and community partners.
- Develop partnership spotlights, recognition materials, and impact stories.
- Promote collaborative projects and partnership successes through organizational communication channels.
- Support stakeholder engagement activities that strengthen awareness and community support.
Events & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead communications and promotional efforts for organizational events.
- Support planning and execution of fundraising events, graduations, community builds, workshops, and stakeholder gatherings.
- Coordinate event marketing materials, registration communications, and promotional campaigns.
- Attend key events to capture stories, photos, videos, and participant experiences.
- Support sponsor and volunteer recognition efforts associated with organizational events.
Reporting & Analytics
- Establish key performance indicators for communications and engagement activities.
- Track social media, website, newsletter, podcast, event, and campaign performance.
- Prepare monthly reports for organizational leadership.
- Utilize data to drive continuous improvement.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Initially, this position may supervise:
- Communications interns
- Marketing contractors
- Photography and videography contractors
- Graphic design contractors
As the organization grows, additional supervisory responsibilities may be added.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Three (3) or more years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations, community engagement, nonprofit communications, or related work.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute communications strategies.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong storytelling and content development abilities.
- Experience managing social media and digital communications.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to attend occasional evening and weekend events.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in nonprofit, workforce development, education, construction, skilled trades, or social enterprise environments.
- Experience managing podcasts or long-form content platforms.
- Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools.
- Experience with WordPress and website management.
- Experience with Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or similar email marketing platforms.
- Photography and videography experience.
- Experience with media relations and public relations.
- Experience supporting fundraising campaigns and sponsor recognition efforts.
- Familiarity with CRM systems and engagement tracking tools.
