Shaw Welding Co. is a well-established structural steel fabricator based in Billerica, MA, founded in 1983. We specialize in structural steel, stairs and railings, and custom “job shop” projects throughout the Greater Boston area and New England. Known for our reputation for reliability, speed, and craftsmanship, we’re expanding our team with the addition of a Project Manager to help us continue growing and delivering at the highest level.
Position Summary:
We’re seeking a highly organized and driven Project Manager to oversee steel fabrication and erection projects from contract award through closeout. This is a new position within our growing company and offers the opportunity to shape how projects are executed and delivered across a variety of steel and custom metalwork jobs.
You’ll serve as the critical liaison between Shaw Welding’s shop/field teams and our external partners, including General Contractors, Architects, Engineers, and Project Owners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and manage all phases of assigned structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects
- Communicate regularly with General Contractors, Architects, Engineers, and project stakeholders
- Collaborate with detailers and fabricators to ensure drawings meet project specs
- Monitor project schedules, RFIs, submittals, and procurement timelines
- Conduct frequent job site visits to assess progress and troubleshoot field issues
- Work with shop and field teams to ensure smooth fabrication sequencing and timely erection
- Track and process change orders; assist with billing and cost tracking
- Ensure jobsite safety and compliance with documentation standards
Qualifications:
- 2–4+ years of experience in construction or steel project management
- Strong knowledge of structural and miscellaneous metals, including stairs, railings, and job shop components
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact professionally at all levels—from laborers to owners
- Proficiency or familiarity with Tekla, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and shop drawings
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to Boston-area job sites regularly
Preferred (Not Required):
- Experience with FabSuite/STRUMIS or similar ERP/shop management systems
- Background in steel fabrication, detailing, or erection
- OSHA 10/30 certification
