POSITION OVERVIEW

We’re seeking an experienced Integration Consultant to design and deliver custom integrations between Salesforce and grantmaking or other third-party systems for our nonprofit and foundation clients.

This is a direct 1099 engagement for someone who can own an integration workstream from end to end: refining requirements, validating API capabilities, designing the solution, building and testing the integration, documenting it, and confidently demonstrating the finished solution to the client.

The strongest candidates have personally delivered production Salesforce integrations with external systems and are comfortable working across differing data models, APIs, authentication methods, and operational workflows. You should be able to assess an unfamiliar API, determine what it supports in practice, make sound technical decisions, and clearly explain tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Experience serving foundations, grantmakers, or nonprofit organizations is strongly preferred. Direct experience integrating Foundant (including Grant Lifecycle Manager, CommunitySuite, or Scholarship Lifecycle Manager) with Salesforce is preferred but not required.

Engagement structure: 1099 contract, approximately 20 hours per week. Fully remote. Compensation is commensurate with experience. This role requires significant overlap with Eastern Time business hours (roughly 9am-5pm ET) for client meetings and working sessions with the Sertus team. Work may span more than one client engagement.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Requirements & Solution Refinement

• Review the existing requirements and high-level solution design with the Sertus team and get up to speed quickly on the client's grantmaking process
• Validate proposed designs against the capabilities and limitations of Foundant’s API.
• Document detailed technical requirements, data mappings, integration logic, and operational considerations.
• Identify assumptions, gaps, dependencies, data-quality concerns, and edge cases before development begins.

Solution Design & Build

• Design the technical architecture for the Foundant to Salesforce integration, including sync direction, trigger points, and frequency.
• Build integration(s) end to end. 
• Create reliable mappings across differing data models, including organizations, contacts, applications, grants, awards, payments, activities, and related records where applicable.
• Handle identity resolution across systems and establish practical approaches to matching, external IDs, duplicate prevention, and record ownership.
• Design for API limits, bulk operations, retries, idempotency, exceptions, and data reconciliation.
• Make defensible technical decisions and explain the reasoning behind them clearly to Sertus team members and clients.

Testing & Quality

• Develop and execute thorough testing plans across expected workflows, edge cases, error conditions, and high-volume scenarios before client release.
• Build reconciliation and exception-handling processes that give client staff a clear path when a record does not sync as expected.
• Troubleshoot issues independently, escalating thoughtfully when another perspective or specialized expertise is needed.
• Help ensure integrations are maintainable, secure, understandable, and appropriate for the client’s long-term operating capacity.

Documentation & Client Demos

• Produce clear technical documentation covering architecture, data mapping, configuration, monitoring, known limitations, and support procedures.
• Lead or support client demos that build confidence in the solution and prepare teams for long-term success.
• Communicate progress, risks, decisions, and blockers proactively throughout the engagement.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

• Personally built and delivered production integrations between Salesforce and third-party systems, from requirements and design through testing and go-live.
• Strong Salesforce integration fundamentals, including external IDs and upserts, matching and duplicate rules, API limits, bulk operations, and error handling at scale.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate unfamiliar APIs and technical documentation critically, including testing what an external system supports before committing to a solution design.
• Experience designing and implementing data mappings across systems with different object models and business processes.
• Experience with integration authentication patterns, secure credential handling, monitoring, logging, alerts, exception management, and operational support.
• Ability to independently own an integration workstream while collaborating closely with a project team.
• Strong written and verbal client communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Availability to commit approximately 20 hours per week with significant overlap with 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience working with foundations, grantmakers, philanthropic organizations, or nonprofit organizations.
• Familiarity with grantmaking operations, including applications, review cycles, award decisions, payment workflows, grantee relationships, compliance, and reporting.
• Hands-on experience integrating Salesforce with Foundant Grant Lifecycle Manager, CommunitySuite, Scholarship Lifecycle Manager, or another grantmaking platform.
• Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack, Nonprofit Cloud, Nonprofit Cloud for Grantmaking, or comparable nonprofit/grantmaking technology experience.
• Experience with middleware or iPaaS platforms such as MuleSoft, Boomi, Workato, Celigo, Jitterbit, Make, or similar tools.
• Experience migrating a client from a manual, spreadsheet-based, or file-based process to a supported integration.
• Prior consulting experience, particularly in project-based, fractional, or client-facing technical engagements.
