TEACHER – INFANT AND/OR TODDLERS

Nature of Work

Work involves close supervision of all the activities of the infant child, observing and recording in five basic areas: (1) Social; (2) Emotional; (3) Physical, (4) Spiritual and, (5) Cognitive behavior.


The functions are carried on, keeping in mind the small child’s need for love and personal contact. And other duties as assigned.

 Participate in scheduled in-service training programs.

 Plans for daily activity of infants/toddlers.

 Sets up feeding schedule for infants/toddlers who provide a pleasant eating experience.

 Greet parents in the morning, receiving and recording instruction on each infant for the day.

 Labels each child crib and maintain safe, sanitary sleeping area.

 Keeps floor and room free of potentially dangerous obstacles and/or situations.

 Makes sure that infants/toddlers are always kept clean and dry.

 Observe infants/toddlers closely for any signs of sickness and report findings to immediate supervisor.

 Report any accidents or unusual incidents to the supervisor immediately.

 Keep the nursery in an orderly, clean fashion.

 Change infants/toddlers in preparation for afternoon pick-up (diapers & outfits).

 Check files (whenever someone other than parents pick the infants/toddler up); to see if an individual is authorized to receive the child.

 Request any supplies needed for child (request should be made in writing).

 Adhere to State infant feeding policies. (See Bulletin 137)

 Adhere to Safe Sleep Practices. (See Bulletin 137)

 Provide Daily Reports for Infants to parents daily: Written or electronic reports that include the liquid intake, food intake, disposition, bowel movements and eating and sleeping patterns

shall be given to the parents of infants daily. Reports shall be kept current throughout the day.

 Follow the center’s chosen curriculum.


Necessary Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

 Be open to criticism given for professional improvement.

 Considerable knowledge and understanding of the development stages of a young child.

 An understanding of special needs of children six weeks to 4 years of age and motivational techniques employed.

 Ability to speak well English which is crucial in this period of language development.

 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, parents, and the public contacted in the course of work.

 Understand Teaching Strategies CLASS.


Required Training and Experience

Preferably a degree in Child Development; however, an individual with a high school diploma and/or extensive work experience in this area will be considered. Pediatric First Aid and CPR training, DCFS Moodle Training (Mandated Reporter), Louisiana Department of Education Module trainings 1-3.

Salary

$8 - $18 per hour
