Assist with planning and leading group recreational quarterly activities for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.


Sequoia Therapeutic Recreation is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to fill the full time role of Recreation and Community Inclusion Specialist. In this position, you will be responsible for providing community based recreational group activities and individualized services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

Recreational Group Activities

-Assist with the development, planning and facilitating of inclusive quarterly recreational activities in the community for folks with I/DD

- Assist with the registration for recreational programs.


In addition to the specific responsibilities listed above, you will also be expected to collaborate and cooperate with team members to meet the needs of clients and the community. This may include performing other duties as assigned, including substituting for coworkers in group activities.

  • Ability to navigate and work in Google Workspace and ability to learn software systems necessary for job duties
  • Ability to maintain data records for registration, attendance, and client service hours
  • Strong organizational skills

Work environment

Weekly schedule will be set quarterly based on the evening and weekend activities scheduled. Monday 11-8pm, Tuesday 5-8pm, Wednesday 3:30-6:3pm, Thurs - Sun variable based on seasonal events. Overnight adventures may be an option for candidates with camping experience.

Due to the direct service nature of our work, most work is expected to be completed on-site directly with clients. Hybrid job, in person service with clients, research and report remote when completing reports, email communication, and research of opportunities for clients.

Offsite tasks, creating relationships and opportunities with community members and community organizations is required. Use of personal vehicles is eligible for reimbursement in accordance with state and federal laws and Sequoia Therapeutic Recreation policy.

Required Training and Experience

  • HS degree, be at least 18yrs year old. 
  • 2-4 years of experience with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in any capacity. 
  • Experience planning a variety of group activities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic technology skills and experience with Google Workspace.
  • Candidates are required to obtain the following necessary certifications independently before engaging directly with clients.
  • First Aid/CPR and Blood Borne Pathogens certification

Preferred Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Education, Child Development, Gerontology, Recreational Therapy, Nursing, or related field. 

  • 3-5 years experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Additional eligibility requirements

- Willingness to flex schedule to fulfill organizational needs (weekends based on recreational programs, evenings, and overnight shifts for the 1 camping trip)

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand for up to 8 hrs
  • Ability to sit for up to 8 hrs

Travel required

Travel will be required to meet clients in various community locations. Must hold a valid driver's license and have access to a reliable vehicle or be independently able to get where you need to go in the community to meet the needs of your clients.

Benefits - Sick Leave

For every 40 hrs works, one hour of sick leave will be accrued.

Title: Recreation Leader 

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt; eligible for overtime

Location: Varied; Drivers License and Personal Vehicle Required

Schedule: Variable and flexible; 10-30 hours with occasional weekend and/or evening activities

Reports to Executive Director

Salary Grade: $16.28 - 19/hour DOE
