Schoolhouse of Wonder Wake or Orange Year Round Camp Coordinator Cary, NC · Chapel Hill, NC · Full time

The Camp Coordinator works in collaboration with a team to ensure the operational success of Schoolhouse camp programs. Schoolhouse staff are expected to model kindness, curiosity, confidence, and empathy in their interactions with children, teens, parents, teachers, coworkers, and other stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Provide exemplary adherence to Schoolhouse’s values, policies, and procedures. Help create, maintain, and uphold style and brand guidelines and integrity (internal and external);

·      Partner with other staff to design and implement camp programs and activities that meet Schoolhouse mission and goals;

·      Coordinate and ensure the delivery of camp programs in accordance with Schoolhouse values and methodologies;

·      Remain current with best practice information on relevant topic (e.g. child development, risk management, and related research);

·      Ensure the appropriate implementation of crisis plans and procedures;

·      Mentor, supervise, and evaluate field staff as assigned. 

·      Seek and analyze input from youth, families, and staff regarding the quality, safety, and enjoyment of programs and new programming opportunities; 

·      Maintain production, upkeep, and inventory of program materials and provide seasonal purchasing orders for program materials;

·      Build and maintain strong relationships with Schoolhouse staff, families, customers, volunteers, and community partners;

·      Serve as a Camp Leader and support other staff to serve effectively in the role;

·      Communicate regularly about the status of programs and staff in field;

·       Ensure minimal impact to, and routine upkeep of, all program site facilities.

·       Complete administrative tasks and other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

·      Commitment to Schoolhouse of Wonder’s mission and values;

·      Good fit with Schoolhouse of Wonder’s organizational culture;

·      Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience (min. four years) and at least 18 years of age;

·      Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation;

·      Desire and ability to work successfully with children outdoors;

·      Personal qualities such as integrity, sense of humor, enthusiasm, positivity, initiative, ability to work in a team setting, and extraordinary attention to detail;

·      Commitment to individual and organizational excellence in a growth-oriented environment;

·      Ability to work independently and follow through on tasks with minimal supervision, take initiative, solve problems, and lead by example;

·      Commitment to provide extraordinary customer service. Demonstrated ability to respond with a high degree of urgency to the needs and requests of customers, community partners, and staff; 

·      Willingness and ability to adjust to changing conditions and priorities;

·      Strong written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in computer use including MS Word and Excel, along with ability and interest in learning new programs;

·      Current certification in pediatric and adult CPR and First Aid from American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI);

·      Successful background check and permission to pursue indicated and non-indicated references.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

·      Teaching experience in formal or informal settings;

·      Youth-serving program experience outside of Schoolhouse of Wonder including summer camp, environmental education, etc.;

·      A strong interest in/knowledge of plants, animals, geology, ecology, naturalist skills, cultural history, storytelling, behavior management, and/or child development;

·      Experience with program administration (i.e., budget management, program development, parent communication), teaching/training staff, and staff supervision (i.e., staff management, scheduling, hiring, and mentorship);

·      English/Spanish bilingual fluency

Salary

$18 - $20 per hour
