About Schoolhouse of Wonder

Schoolhouse of Wonder is an award-winning North Carolina nonprofit that creates kind, curious, and confident kids through nature-based outdoor adventures. We run year-round day camps, field trips, and leadership training programs for 5-17 year olds across four Triangle locations.

Description

Every year, more than 7,000 kids leave Schoolhouse of Wonder dirty, tired, and happy. We want that number to grow, and we’re hiring the person who’ll help make it happen. This is a chance to be the go-to person for communications at an award-winning nonprofit that has served Triangle kids and families since 1989. You’ll report directly to our CEO, and your work will show up quickly in registrations and donor gifts. The role is new and could grow into a manager position as the work delivers.

What you’ll take on

  • Enrollment marketing for our outdoor camps, field trips, and teen leadership programs
  • Email marketing in MailChimp: managing lists, segmenting audiences, and running targeted and retargeting campaigns
  • Donor communications: appeals, thank-you notes, and impact stories
  • Recruiting campaigns for about 100 seasonal staff each year
  • Photos, video, and stories from our programs
  • Planning and promoting events

Who we’re looking for:

Someone with a few years in marketing, communications, or fundraising who’s ready to take on the full picture instead of one piece of it. You can write a camp email parents actually read and a thank-you note donors remember. And you’re the kind of person we hope our campers grow up to be: kind, curious, and confident.

We’re a small team, so no two weeks look the same. One day you’re writing a donor appeal, the next you’re launching camp registration or planning an event, and the work keeps moving all year. If that kind of variety sounds fun, you’ll fit right in.

Don’t match every line? Apply anyway. We spend every day encouraging kids to try new things and discover they’re more capable than they thought. It would be strange not to hire the same way.

The details:

Based in the Triangle with a lot of time working from home, you will also spend some time at our program sites and events in Durham, Wake, and Orange Counties, including occasional evenings and weekends.

The benefits:

Schoolhouse of Wonder contributes 80% toward the cost of employee only health insurance and 50% toward employee only vision and dental coverage. Schoolhouse of Wonder does not contribute toward the cost of dependent medical coverage.

Application instructions:

A complete application includes:

  • Please include a cover letter that explains your interest in working as a Camp Manager at Schoolhouse of Wonder (maximum one page). Please include your email and phone number.
  • Your resume (maximum one page). Do not include photos of yourself on your resume.
  • Completed application questions on Gusto.

A successful background check is required before work can begin. Schoolhouse will pursue both indicated and non-indicated references.

Qualified women, minorities, and bilingual candidates (English/Spanish) are encouraged to apply. We are fully invested in creating a supportive environment for all marginalized groups including women, people of color, and LGBT+ people by promoting community collaboration within our organization.
