Position Summary
The Music Instructor teaches students across a diverse range of musical styles from AC/DC to Zappa, creating a safe and inspiring environment where students can achieve their musical and creative potential. The Instructor ensures that each School of Rock student has an exceptional musical journey by delivering dynamic, challenging lessons that embody rock and roll in a positive way.
School of Rock teaches five core areas: keys, vocals, guitar, bass, and drums. Many instructors bring broader musical talents that we actively engage and utilize.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Music Instruction and Curriculum
- Deliver high-quality music instruction through private lessons and group performances
- Ensure students learn fundamental music theory and techniques, not just individual songs
- Create and document comprehensive lesson plans tailored to individual student needs
- Develop progressive curriculum that challenges and inspires students at all skill levels
- Prepare students for performances, and showcases
Student and Family Engagement
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress after lessons
- Provide constructive feedback and recommendations for continued musical development
- Maintain visible and accessible presence in the school to interact with students and families
- Support overall program execution, including assistance during lesson cancellations
- Foster positive relationships that encourage student retention and growth
Operational Support
- Assist with rehearsals and basic school maintenance as needed
- Participate in school events, performances, and community activities
- Support administrative functions related to music instruction
- Collaborate with other instructors and staff to maintain program quality
Compliance and Safety
- Adhere to School of Rock Code of Conduct and all safety policies
- Follow Monitoring and Supervision policy requirements
- Maintain professional boundaries and create safe learning environment
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
Required Qualifications
Experience and Education
- Minimum 4 years of experience teaching and/or performing music professionally
- Comprehensive knowledge of music theory and curriculum design
- Demonstrated ability to work with students of varying ages and skill levels
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to connect with diverse range of students and families
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Outstanding customer relations and communication abilities
- Resourceful problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to work effectively under pressure

Preferred Qualifications
- Working musician with active performance experience
- Formal music school training or degree in music education/performance
- Experience with multiple instruments across the five core areas
- Previous experience in educational or youth-focused settings
- Spanish language skills (helpful but not required)
Working Conditions
- Fast-paced educational environment with frequent student interaction
- Evening and weekend hours required based on lesson schedule
- Physical requirements include standing, demonstrating instruments, and moving equipment
- Noise levels consistent with music instruction environment
Compensation and Benefits
$19.00 – $23.00 per hour based on qualifications
