Position Summary:

The CNC Mill/Lathe Machinist at Santa Lucia Manufacturing is responsible for more advanced machining operations, including setting up CNC Lathe and Mill machines, utilizing the ERP system (ProShop) to accurately track and process jobs, and assisting in the training and oversight of junior operators. This role requires a higher level of technical proficiency, leadership, and attention to detail. The ideal candidate will ensure that production runs efficiently, maintain high-quality standards, and contribute to the continuous improvement of shop processes.


This role reports to: Production Manager


Job Responsibilities:

  • ERP System Utilization: Utilize the ProShop ERP system to process and track jobs accurately, ensuring that all job data is entered correctly and that production timelines are met.
  • Machine Setup: Independently set up machines, calibrating them to meet specific job requirements, and ensure that they are properly maintained for optimal performance.
  • Monitor and Adjust Machine Settings: Control and adjust machine settings (e.g., speed, feed rates) to maintain optimal production efficiency and quality.
  • Quality Inspection: Conduct in-process inspections using precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers) to ensure that parts meet specified tolerances.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify, diagnose, and resolve machine-related issues quickly to minimize downtime.
  • Lead Responsibilities: Assist in the training and development of junior machine operators, providing guidance on best practices and machine operation techniques.
  • Work Oversight: Review the work in progress of junior operators to ensure accuracy, adherence to specifications, and compliance with safety standards.
  • Continuous Improvement: Actively participate in process improvement initiatives, providing feedback on ways to enhance productivity and quality.


Qualifications:

  • Experience: Proven experience as a Lather and Mill machine operator, with a demonstrated ability to set up and run advanced CNC machinery - References checked.
  • Software: Previous experience with ERP systems (especially ProShop) is required.
  • Skills: Proficiency with precision measuring instruments, ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings, and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Attributes: Leadership qualities, including the ability to mentor and guide junior staff. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and a commitment to quality.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional technical training or certification in CNC machining is highly preferred.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects (+50 lbs).
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.


Work Environment:

The shop is generally open 9am-6pm M-F, but hours can shift as appropriate for the role. The shop environment can fluctuate seasonally and may involve exposure to machining noises and other industrial conditions.


Total Rewards:

  • Compensation: $35.00-$42.00 per hour Full-Time
  • Paid Time Off (PTO): Accrue 80 hours off per year after 90-day intro period.
  • Sick Leave: 40 hours of paid sick leave per year after 90-day intro period.
