San Diego Elder Law Center is looking for in-house assistance with processing and follow up of public benefits applications for Medi-Cal. Some law firm experience helpful but not required. After 1 year of year of service, a qualifying Public Benefits Advocate in our office may be eligible to be certified as and promoted to Paralegal under CA Business & Professions Code Section 6450(c)(3).

This position requires keen attention to detail, the ability to simultaneously manage multiple conflicting deadlines, and a large volume of paperwork. We are anticipating filling this as a trainee position, but experienced candidates are welcome to apply.

Your skills should include:

·      You like working with numbers, some accounting, bookkeeping or banking experience highly desirable

·      Familiarity with Banking and investment statements

·      Excellent communication, both oral and written

·      Great people skills

·      Good to excellent computer skills

·      Good phone skills and demeanor

·      Taking initiative in managing your case load.

·      Attention to detail and strong time management skills

·      Bachelor’s degree in social work or similar area (strongly desired)

·      At least one year’s experience with Public Benefits eligibility or application processing
