We're looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to establish and own best practices across SamCart's cloud infrastructure in AWS and GCP. You'll design and operate the multi-region infrastructure our platform runs on, own uptime, and give our engineering teams a deployment path they can trust.
This is a hands-on ownership role, not an advisory one. You'll build the infrastructure-as-code, run the CI/CD pipelines, carry the pager, and partner directly with engineers shipping features. On a lean team, the person who owns infrastructure has real say in how the platform gets built.
You'll lean on AI heavily. We use Claude every day to write, debug, document, and move faster with a small team. We want someone who treats AI like a teammate: not cautious about it, but not blindly trusting it either.
Responsibilities
Cloud Infrastructure
- Design, build, and operate cloud-based infrastructure around Docker and Kubernetes in AWS and GCP.
- Architect for a multi-tenant web application built on a microservices architecture, with application performance and scalability front of mind.
- Own multi-region deployment and disaster recovery, from design through tested, documented runbooks.
- Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code so environments are reproducible and changes are reviewable.
Deployments and CI/CD
- Own our CI/CD pipelines and apply GitOps methodology across environments.
- Ensure efficiency and predictability of deployments and upgrades, so shipping is boring in the best way.
- Remove friction for engineers: faster builds, clearer failures, fewer manual steps.
Reliability and Operations
- Maintain application uptime and participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation.
- Perform the full spectrum of DevOps functions: system administration, configuration management, performance and security monitoring, and disaster recovery.
- Run incidents to resolution and write the postmortem that keeps it from happening twice.
- Build observability that surfaces problems before customers feel them.
Security and Cost
- Establish and enforce security best practices across both cloud environments, including secrets management, access control, and network posture.
- Track and optimize cloud spend, and flag where we're paying for things we don't need.
Across Everything
- Collaborate with engineering teams to support new features with AWS and GCP services.
- Work directly with AWS and GCP technical account managers, solutions architects, and consulting partners.
- Use Claude daily to write scripts and configs, debug faster, and handle a wide range of tasks.
- Keep infrastructure decisions and runbooks documented in Notion so the team can follow and build off your work.
- Jump on whatever the team needs, because on a small team priorities shift.
Requirements
Who You Are
- At least 5 years of professional experience building and supporting cloud infrastructure in AWS and/or GCP, with a track record of building performant, secure, highly available multi-region web applications.
- Deep with the tooling: Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Vault, or close equivalents.
- Highly proficient with cloud-hosted CI/CD pipelines and tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, CircleCI, AWS CodePipeline, or similar).
- Strong with Bash and scripting languages for automation and glue work.
- Comfortable owning production and on-call rotation, and calm when something breaks at an inconvenient hour.
- Genuinely comfortable working with AI tools like Claude, and just as comfortable catching and fixing their mistakes.
- A real owner who closes things out without being chased.
- Low ego, direct communicator, and good at explaining infrastructure tradeoffs to people who don't live in it.
Strongly Preferred
- Experience in SaaS, subscriptions, or high-volume ecommerce.
- Experience scaling a multi-tenant platform through significant traffic growth.
- Experience in a fast-growth environment ($10M to $100M ARR).
- Hands-on work with observability tooling and cloud cost optimization.
- Experience with Notion or a similar documentation tool.
This Is What You'll Love About SamCart
Our co-founders always say "Their success is our success" and we believe that about our people too! We want everyone to love their job at least 80% of the time, and when you are successful, the whole team is successful.
- We get together in person every quarter: once a year for SamCamp, a multi-day all-company offsite built for connection, big-picture planning, and a genuinely good time, plus a company Hub Week in the other quarters to collaborate and plan for the quarter ahead.
- You'll work with the best AI tools out there. Claude is built into how we operate, and we invest in your AI skills through hands-on learning labs and internal programming.
- We invest in fun for real, with regular company events, brain breaks, and the kind of culture moments that keep a remote team feeling close.
- We have unlimited PTO with an encouraged 14-day minimum to empower our team members to maintain a healthy balance in their day-to-day lives.
- Health Insurance premiums are covered 100% by SamCart for you +1, be it a significant other or child.
- Supportive parental leave policies for all parents.
- Yay, we have 401K!
- We offer a monthly lunch credit, because a good meal on us is a small way to say thanks.
- On a small, fast-moving team your work is visible and your impact is real. We want everyone building sustainable, future-proof, and adaptable careers.
Our Core Values
- Play to Win. We play offense every single day. Unshaken by bigger companies, we see them as proof of what's possible. We adapt, innovate, and outthink them.
- Take Risks, Embrace Failure. Fear doesn't paralyze us. Standing still does. We take risks and embrace failure because it's the quickest path to success.
- Complexity is the Enemy. We keep it simple and stay lean in everything we do: our teams, projects, product, and strategies. We double down on what works, perfecting the few things we do best.
- Ahead of the Curve. Always. We combine intuition, experience, and data to drive breakthrough ideas. We stay curious, spot trends early, and know our customers, market, and business better than anyone.
- The Customer is Everything. We treat their business like it's our own. Their wins are our wins. Their goals are our goals.
- Work with Purpose, Live with Balance. Work is important, but it's not everything. Our greatest wins happen when we bring our best to work, without sacrificing what matters most: our families, friends, and personal growth.
