Overview

Seasonal temporary position leading the build and production side of an outdoor holiday market

Description

We're building something new this winter. Salt & Honey Market is partnering with Downtown Daybreak by the Larry H. Miller Group to launch the Winter Village — a curated holiday maker market set alongside the Daybreak Holiday Lights, with thousands of visitors a night, ice skating, family activations, and a village full of Utah's best makers. Think a proper European-style Christmas market, built right here in Salt Lake. This is year one of what we intend to make an annual tradition.

We're looking for a Production Manager to lead the build — the person who takes the Winter Village from drawings to a fully installed, permitted, fire-marshal-approved village ready for guests. You'll work alongside our Market Manager (who leads day-to-day, on-the-ground operations once doors open) and report to our founder and co-owner.

The role

As Production Manager, you own everything it takes to physically build the Winter Village and get it cleared to open — fabrication, permits, site build-out, and vendor roster logistics. You'll work furthest ahead of anyone on the team, since fabrication alone has a ~9 week lead time. Once the market opens, your role shifts: the Market Manager runs daily operations, and you stay close on production-specific issues — structural, décor, safety, and vendor rotation logistics — while preparing for the final weekend and teardown.

What you'll do

Permits, Compliance & Vendor Agreements

●   Confirm fire-lane and required-pathway specs with the fire marshal and Downtown Daybreak.

●   Drive regulatory and permit approvals (special event sales tax registration, food permits, and related requirements).

●   Collect and track signed vendor agreements and Certificates of Insurance (COIs) for all makers.

Vendor Roster & Programming

●   Assist owners in curation and confirming the rotating maker roster (~65 makers across the season).

●   Build booth assignments and the weekly rotation calendar.

●   Lock programming: activations, scavenger hunt, photo ops, and other guest experience elements.

Site Build

●   Confirm the load-in/load-out schedule and vendor turnover logistics.

●   Coordinate with LHM as they install site utilities (power, light, heat).

●   Oversee installation of structures on site.

●   Manage initial vendor load-in and booth setup.

●   Oversee décor production (cutout trees, vignettes, ornaments) and its installation.

Pre-Launch Readiness

●   Lead the safety walk-through with the fire marshal and LHM

●   Hire, train, and develop a team aligned with Salt & Honey’s values of creativity, community, and authenticity alongside the day-to-day manager

●   Run staff training and a full run-of-show dry run alongside the Market Manager.

During the Market

●   Stay close to daily operations as the production point of contact — structural issues, décor upkeep, safety, and vendor rotation logistics — while the Market Manager runs day-to-day guest and vendor operations.

●   Support the final weekend (close date TBC) with heightened on-site presence.

Teardown

●   Lead teardown and load-out once the market closes.

What you'll need

●   Project or production management experience — you know how to run a timeline with a long lead time and hard, immovable deadlines (a 9-week fabrication window followed by a fixed opening date).

●   Experience coordinating with regulatory bodies, permitting processes, or fire/safety inspections — or the confidence to learn this fast and get it right.

●   Vendor or contractor coordination experience — juggling ~65 maker relationships, agreements, and COIs without anything slipping through the cracks.

●   Tech savvy and ability to learn quickly. We use Shopify, Boutiqly, Asana, Google Business, and other shopkeeping/project tools you'll need to pick up fast.

●   Comfort working hands-on — this isn't a desk-only role. You'll be on-site for installs, décor, and load-in/load-out.

Who you are

●   A planner who thinks in dependencies. You can hold a multi-month timeline in your head, know what's on the critical path, and flag risk before it becomes a problem.

●   Detail- and safety-minded. Fire-lane specs, permits, and COIs aren't paperwork to you — they're what makes the village safe to open.

●   Calm under a hard deadline. Fabrication takes 11 weeks and opening night doesn't move — you know how to work backward from a fixed date and keep everyone on track.

●   Hands-on. You're as comfortable reviewing fabrication drawings as you are on-site directing a structure install or fixing a décor piece the night before opening.

●   Collaborative. You'll work in tandem with the Market Manager and need to hand off cleanly — you build it, they run it, and the two of you need to stay in sync throughout.

Nice to have

●   Experience with event production, construction coordination, or theatrical/set build.

●   Familiarity with fire code, special event permitting, or working alongside a fire marshal.

●   Experience managing a large rotating vendor or maker roster.

●   Familiarity with the Utah maker or small-business community.

●   A love of the season and the kind of magic we're building.

The details

●   Type: Seasonal, August 2026 – January 2027 (plus teardown) with the potential to continue working with us on future projects

●   Schedule: This role starts with 5-10 hour weeks hours during fabrication, permitting, and site build (roughly Sep–Nov), then averages 40 hours per week once the market is running with daily operations shifting to the Market Manager, then tapers down after the final weekend and teardown. Exact hours flex with the fabrication timeline and permit process and will be communicated as milestones are confirmed.

●   Location: Hybrid — remote/flexible during design and fabrication approval, training at both our flagship 9th & 9th store and our Fashion Place Mall location, and on-site at Downtown Daybreak (South Jordan) as installation begins and through the market run.

●   Pay:$30 per hour, depending on experience — in line with the Market Manager role, reflecting comparable seniority and decision-making authority, though weighted toward a different (front-loaded) hours pattern.

Who is our perfect candidate

We are a team of smart, strong, and creative women who love to lead with clear communication, high expectations for excellent results, and deep respect for our local artist and small shop community. We need someone who can see three steps ahead of a hard deadline, keep a complex build on track, and hand off a market that's ready — safe, permitted, and beautiful — for our Market Manager and team to run. If this is you, we'd love to interview you.

We especially welcome applicants who reflect the community we serve. Come help us build a new Salt Lake tradition that will last for years to come.
