Along with our house brand we also carry a small collection of international brands with strong design or ethical practices - something for everyone!

Description

We're building something new this winter. Salt & Honey Market is partnering with Downtown Daybreak by the Larry H. Miller Group to launch the Winter Village — a curated holiday maker market set alongside the Daybreak Holiday Lights, with thousands of visitors a night, ice skating, family activations, and a village full of Utah's best makers. Think a proper European-style Christmas market, built right here in Salt Lake. This is year one of what we intend to make an annual tradition.

We're looking for a Market Manager to help us build it and run it — the person on the ground who makes the whole village hum.

Seasonal Position (starts now through January 2027), hourly, with real potential to grow into an ongoing role as we open our permanent Daybreak location in 2027. Hybrid: mostly off-site planning early on, shifting on-site as the market comes to life.

About Salt & Honey

Salt & Honey Market is a curated shop and artisan collective at 9th & 9th and Fashion Place in Salt Lake City. For over a decade we've championed makers — especially women, minority, and first-time artists — through our shop, pop-ups, vintage markets, events, and workshops. We're warm, design-driven, community-first, and a little bit witty. The Winter Village is our biggest production yet, and a stepping stone to our permanent Daybreak store opening in 2027.

The role

As Market Manager, you're the operational heart of the Winter Village. You start now as our lead on the ground — helping plan, coordinate vendors, and build the market from the ground up. Once it opens, you run the show: leading the on-site team, managing our own Salt & Honey booth and merchandise, driving sales, and troubleshooting whatever comes up with vendors and customers. A second manager joins you around late October to share coverage through the run. You'll work directly with our founder and co-owner and alongside our other managers, merchandiser and marketing manager.

What you'll do

Before the market (Sep–Nov, 5-10 hours a week):

●     Help coordinate vendor applications, communications, and onboarding — the point person makers can count on.

●     Support site planning: booth layout, load-in logistics, and the build-out schedule alongside our team and Downtown Daybreak.

●     Help gather vendor qualifications and permits (special event sales tax registration, food permits) and keep it organized.

●     Pitch in on setup and décor as the village comes together.

During the market (Nov 20 – Jan 2, 36-40 hours a week):

●     Run the market on the ground during open hours, acting as the go-to for vendors, staff, and Downtown Daybreak partners in conjunction with other managers. Hours vary by date and always close at 10pm; peak December days run 10am–10pm. (On site team in two shifts from 9am-11pm).

●     Manage daily open and/or close, booth readiness, and the overall look and feel of the village.

●     Collect and track nightly vendor sales reporting and support weekly commission settlement.

●     Solve problems in real time — weather, no-shows, vendor needs, guest questions — with calm and good judgment.

●     Manage the Salt & Honey booth — our own space in the village — including merchandise, displays, sales, and restocking/transfers.

●     Lead the on-site team — direct staff and work in tandem with the second manager, set the tone, and keep everyone rowing together. This will be around 10-12 part time employees in addition to other management we hire. Work with the LHM team using frequent clear communication and leadership.

●     Troubleshoot vendor and customer issues with warmth and good judgment — you're the person who makes things right.

●     Help keep the village magical: lit, tidy, festive, and welcoming every single night.

What you'll need

●     Retail or management experience. You've run a shop, a team, project or an operation before — you know how to keep things moving and people supported.

●     Tech savvy and ability to learn quickly. We use Shopify, Boutiqly, Asana, Google Business and other shopkeeping apps that you'll need to be able to learn in a short amount of time.

●     Customer service experience. You've worked directly with customers and know how to turn a hiccup into a good experience. This one's a must.

●     Team leadership. You're comfortable directing staff and setting the tone — you'll lead the on-site team and a second manager.

●     Reliable through the season. You can commit to evenings, weekends, and holidays across our busiest, most important stretch.

Who you are

●     Organized and unflappable. You keep a lot of moving pieces straight and stay calm when things get busy or go sideways. You love running projects and checking off tasks.

●     A people person. You're warm and easy with vendors, guests, staff, and partners — the kind of person people are glad to see. You have a high emotional intelligence and can work through conflict with ease. Drama begins and ends with discussions about last night's episode of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.

●     Hands-on. You're happy setting up booths, moving décor, running a register, and being on your feet through an evening market. This is physically demanding and you'll be on your feet most of the day.

●     Design- and detail-aware. You notice when a corner looks off or a light's out, and you care about the guest experience. Art and experience work together to make a magical moment and you understand that aesthetic.

Nice to have

●     Shopify experience — we run on Shopify, so familiarity with POS and inventory is a real plus.

●     Experience with markets, events, or hospitality operations.

●     Familiarity with the Utah maker or small-business community. Have shopped at Salt & Honey and can tell us your favorite makers and small businesses you support.

●     Comfort with basic tech — scheduling, spreadsheets, simple reporting tools.

●     A love of the season and the kind of magic we're building.

The details

●     Type: Seasonal, August 2026 – January 2027, with potential to continue into an ongoing role toward our 2027 Daybreak store.

●     Schedule: Starts light and flexible with planning work this summer and builds through the fall. A second manager joins around late October, and once the market opens the two of you split coverage — typically five eight-hour shifts each per week, on a rotating schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays. Market hours vary by date and always close at 10pm (peak December days run 10am–10pm) with you closing down the market at night and opening it in the morning. The market runs November 19 – January 2 (closed Thanksgiving and Christmas), plus about a week after for load-out and wrap-up. Exact hours flex with the needs of the season and will communicated ahead of time. This requires someone with a flexible schedule and willingness to be on call if needed.

●     Location: Hybrid — off-site and flexible during early planning, on-site at Downtown Daybreak (South Jordan) during setup and the market run.

●     Pay: $25–$30 per hour, depending on experience.
