Overview: This position will lead the Salt City Coffee location near Le Moyne College. The location manager will help grow this new location’s impact by bringing fostering a great work environment and a welcoming space that guests look forward to visiting. They will use what they know of leadership and Salt City Coffee’s systems to enrich the company, Le Moyne, and the surrounding community. 


Job Goal: 

  • To oversee all aspects of a coffee shop, including system creation and implementation, operations, workflow, personnel, inventory, and marketing. 
  • To be a supportive, consistent leader to the team: coach, nurture, and guide the cafe team to success by setting clear expectations, communicating and upholding company policies, setting goals, facilitating continual learning, and teaching skills development. 
  • To represent the business with dignity and respect 
  • To curate a hospitable coffee shop and motivate your team to do the same 
  • To collaborate with Le Moyne on the functional use of the space for events and more.


Time Commitment: 35-40 hours per week. Must be available to work weekends when needed. Most of the hours will be “on-the-floor” shifts. “Off-bar” time can be used for administrative tasks like scheduling & placing orders, making checklists, updating employee documents, sending emails, and any other tasks assigned.

There will be a 90 day training / probationary period in which the location manager will undergo continued training and gradually take on more responsibilities.

Responsibilities: 

Team Management & Coaching

  • Model and coach our company values with cafe team members
  • Enforce and uphold all company policies 
  • Handle scheduling for the team, including revising budgeted hours to reach labor % goals and maximize efficiency
  • Manage payroll by adjusting shifts to meet the demand of busy times and/or sending team members home on slower days as needed
  • Field and solve for call-outs by covering shifts or reaching out to team members to cover shifts
  • Ensure continued learning and improvement by implementing training on the floor for all team members. Correct and guide team members of all levels in brewing technique and customer service skills on an ongoing basis. 
  • Cultivate a positive work environment, empower staff to feel comfortable with stressful situations, high volume days, and all types of customer interactions
  • Resolve conflicts as needed, diffuse and settle disagreements among team members, create psychological safety at work for all team members, and elevate issues quickly to the General Manager. 
  • Conduct one on one & group staff meetings on a monthly basis to ensure the smooth flow of information between team and leadership
  • Set goals for team and individual team member development so that all members feel supported 


Stocking, Merchandising, Curating

  • Manage daily and weekly inventory, implement systems so that team members understand inventory and pars
  • Place orders with vendors including, but not limited to: pastry orders, produce, food suppliers, internal commissary orders.
  • Confirm accurate and timely deliveries, check invoice details, ensure any issues are communicated immediately with appropriate vendors or team members. 
  • Strategize for counter display, retail display, and work areas to emphasize specials & specialty aspects of the Salt City Coffee brand
  • Contribute creative ideas about possible menu items, store layout, marketing strategies, and more
  • Strategically plan ahead for extra busy weekends or anticipated slow periods and adjust orders accordingly to minimize waste 
  • Oversee planning and execution of events within the space, including collaborating with event host, coaching the team in events systems, and always continuing to improve through feedback 


Customer Care 

  • Coach team members through customer interactions to continually hone their skills and  maximize positive customer experiences 
  • Listen to customer & Le Moyne representatives’ feedback to understand trends & demands, use that to inform future decisions & strategies
  • Identify and recommend ways in which to reach a broader audience 
  • Identify and recommend ways in which to improve customer satisfaction 


Systems and Processes 

  • Regularly update cafe’s systems & processes to ensure that they are effective and efficient, and are being utilized daily by staff 
  • Minimize cafe waste by monitoring waste logs daily, maximize profitability 
  • Create checklists for opening, closing, midday tasks, deep cleaning tasks, and more. Ensure those checklists are being used daily by staff
  • Strategize ways to maximize efficiency, implement these strategies so that staff is well-practiced 
  • Troubleshoot equipment and infrastructure issues and communicate needs to the appropriate party in a timely manner
