Description

The Veterinary Referral Relationship Manager builds trusted partnerships with referring veterinary hospitals and turns those relationships into sustainable referral growth.

This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who can understand the big picture and make it happen in the field. The Manager works with SVI’s Executive Team to translate company strategy into focused market and account-development initiatives while coordinating closely with Hospital Managers, the Call Center Manager, Operations, clinical teams, Marketing, and administrative support.

This is not transactional sales or a job for someone who simply enjoys handing out brochures. The right person will be curious, credible, highly organized, and genuinely interested in understanding what referring DVMs need—and connecting those needs with the right Sage services.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Capacity Alignment

  • Works with the Executive Team to translate SVI’s growth strategy into clear territory, service, and account priorities.
  • Develops annual and quarterly referral-growth plans in coordination with Operations and site leadership.
  • Partners with Hospital Managers and the Call Center Manager to align outreach with appointment availability, referral demand, scheduling performance, staffing, and site capacity.
  • Uses referral patterns, call-center insights, and field intelligence to identify growth opportunities, missed conversions, and referral barriers.
  • Coordinates with site DVMs to ensure clinical competency, protocols, workflows, and patient-safety requirements support the services being promoted.
  • Adjusts outreach when operational capacity or clinical readiness changes.
  • Participates in Operations L10 meetings to communicate anticipated demand, address barriers, and keep growth plans operationally achievable.

Referral Relationships and Territory Growth

  • Owns referral relationship development across Spring/Houston, Round Rock/Austin, and the developing Dallas market.
  • Builds trusted relationships with referring DVMs, practice managers, medical directors, and hospital leaders.
  • Conducts referring-DVM visits, meetings, presentations, educational outreach, and relationship follow-up.
  • Identifies and prioritizes prospective, strategic, growing, declining, inactive, and at-risk referral accounts.
  • Develops account plans based on each practice’s needs, referral patterns, barriers, decision-makers, and growth potential.
  • Moves relationships from initial introduction through first referral, repeat referral, retention, and sustainable growth.
  • Remains engaged after the first referral to ensure the referring hospital’s experience supports continued trust and utilization.
  • Coordinates involvement from Hospital Managers, site DVMs, radiologists, neurologists, or executive leaders when their expertise will strengthen the relationship.
  • Supports recovery of relationships affected by clinical, communication, scheduling, or service concerns.
  • Represents Sage at selected veterinary meetings, conferences, educational events, and professional-association activities.

Program, Marketing and Team Coordination

  • Builds and maintains Sage’s referral-relationship processes, tools, account tracking, and reporting.
  • Establishes clear expectations for account ownership, outreach, documentation, and follow-up.
  • Provides guidance, training, and practical resources to employees participating in referral development.
  • Supports Sandy’s Hospital Manager in executing the location’s targeted, site-led outreach.
  • Helps onboard and coach future field representatives or territory managers as the program expands.
  • Partners with Marketing and the administrative team to coordinate campaigns, presentations, referral collateral, promotional materials, events, and VMA activities.
  • Tracks marketing and outreach initiatives, including owners, deadlines, status, costs, and results.
  • Provides field feedback to improve messaging, educational resources, and marketing materials.
  • Prevents duplicated outreach, inconsistent messaging, and the always-unhelpful “I thought someone else was handling that.”

Performance and Market Intelligence

  • Tracks account progression, new and repeat referrals, reactivated accounts, retention, referral growth, and revenue performance.
  • Maintains accurate and timely account, activity, and follow-up documentation.
  • Monitors competitors, referral patterns, market needs, corporate-hospital activity, and emerging opportunities.
  • Captures feedback about Sage’s services, access, pricing, communication, turnaround times, and market reputation.
  • Shares actionable market intelligence with the Executive Team, Operations, Marketing, the Call Center, and clinical leadership.
  • Uses results and field insights to refine account priorities, outreach cadence, territory coverage, and resource recommendations.

Success is measured by meaningful account progression, sustainable referral and revenue growth, strategic-account retention, effective use of available capacity, and strong coordination across the organization. Visits and outreach matter, but activity alone is not the goal.

  • Experience training or coaching customer-facing employees.
  • Experience helping build a new referral-development or field-growth program.

The Right Person

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Build genuine relationships without losing sight of measurable results. Care. Our purpose is to get answers for pets and pet owners.
  • Can talk strategy with executives in the morning and comfortably meet with referring DVMs that afternoon.
  • Ask thoughtful questions, listen carefully, and uncover what people actually need.
  • Understand that clinical credibility and trust matter more than a polished sales pitch.
  • Enjoy creating order, momentum, and accountability without becoming unnecessarily corporate.
  • Follow through on the details—because great relationships can still be lost through poor execution.
  • Want your work to strengthen veterinary partnerships, expand access to advanced imaging, and ultimately improve care for more animals.
