Position Overview
Sage Veterinary Imaging is seeking a board-certified veterinary radiologist for a unique virtual clinical role that goes beyond traditional teleradiology.
Our radiologists serve as virtual clinical partners to Sage DVMs, interns, and imaging teams, remaining connected to the diagnostic imaging process from study acquisition through interpretation, clinical communication, and case follow-up. Working across ultrasound (US), CT, MRI, and advanced neuro-MRI, the radiologist provides real-time clinical guidance, supports study acquisition and protocol selection, and advances clinician capabilities across imaging modalities.
This model combines the flexibility of remote radiology with the clinical engagement, specialist collaboration, professional growth, and case continuity typically associated with an on-site specialty practice.
Are You Looking for More from Your Radiology Practice?
Do you want the flexibility of virtual radiology while remaining meaningfully connected to clinical medicine? Are you energized by complex cases, collaboration with other specialists, advancing your skills in neuro- and cross-sectional imaging, and seeing what happens with your patients after the report is complete?
What Makes Radiology at Sage Different
The role provides the opportunity to:
- Practice as an integrated clinical partner—versus a solo image interpreter—working alongside Sage DVMs, neurologists, radiologists, interns, and imaging teams.
- Deepen your expertise in neurologic and cross-sectional imaging through collaboration with clinicians highly experienced in these areas.
- Remain connected to the full imaging journey, from remote acquisition guidance through interpretation, clinical decision-making, and meaningful case follow-up.
- Build high-touch relationships with referring veterinarians through direct consultation and case discussion, including brief Loom videos that help advance their understanding of complex or noteworthy findings.
- Work in a quality-focused clinical environment where outcomes are tracked and used to continually strengthen diagnostic quality, protocols, and patient care.
- Help shape an evolving model of collaborative veterinary imaging, contributing your expertise to clinical standards, workflow, technology, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Virtual Clinical Partnership & Case Coordination
- Serve as a virtual clinical partner to Sage DVMs, interns, technicians, and specialty clinicians across US, CT, MRI, and neuro-MRI cases.
- Use Sage’s virtual clinical and imaging platforms to collaborate with on-site teams in real time—reviewing studies as they are acquired, providing guidance, discussing cases, and supporting clinical decision-making while working remotely.
- Provide real-time expertise in modality selection, study design, protocols, sequences, and acquisition to support diagnostic quality and optimize each study.
- Collaborate with on-site DVMs to prioritize cases, address acquisition or clinical considerations, and support efficient, timely imaging and patient care.
- Participate in case follow-up, maintaining greater visibility into clinical outcomes and incorporating those insights into continued clinical collaboration and improvement.
- While the role is designed to be virtual, radiologists are welcomed and encouraged to spend time at any Sage imaging center for onboarding, orientation, clinical collaboration, or hands-on work with our teams.
Diagnostic Interpretation & rDVM Partnership
- Interpret diagnostic imaging studies accurately, comprehensively, and within established turnaround expectations, producing clear and clinically actionable reports.
- Communicate directly with referring veterinarians on significant, complex, or time-sensitive findings, serving as an accessible imaging resource for case discussion and clinical decision-making.
- Help advance rDVM understanding through brief Loom videos that visually walk through complex or noteworthy findings and connect imaging to the clinical picture.
- Provide consultation to Sage clinicians regarding imaging findings, differential diagnoses, additional diagnostics, and imaging-related clinical considerations.
- Support continuity across study acquisition, interpretation, communication, and clinical follow-up, helping ensure imaging meaningfully informs next steps in patient care.
Clinical Collaboration & Mentorship
- Partner with Sage DVMs and interns across ultrasound, CT, MRI, and neuro-MRI, supporting continued growth in modality selection, protocoling, study acquisition, image assessment, and clinical application.
- Provide case-based guidance and feedback as a natural part of collaborative clinical workflow.
- Participate in case review, rounds, and collaborative case discussions that strengthen imaging competency and clinical reasoning.
- Identify opportunities to support individual and team development based on case experience, acquisition quality, imaging challenges, and clinical outcomes.
Quality, Outcomes & Continuous Improvement
- Participate in peer review, quality assurance, and clinical outcome tracking, using follow-up to support continual learning and diagnostic improvement.
- Identify opportunities to improve study acquisition, imaging protocols, reporting, communication, and case workflow, collaborating with clinical and operational teams to implement solutions.
- Partner with Sage clinical leadership to advance clinical standards, diagnostic quality, patient outcomes, and the referring-veterinarian experience.
- Stay current with advances in veterinary diagnostic imaging, neuroimaging, imaging technology, and evidence-based practice, helping translate new knowledge into clinical practice.
Qualifications
- DVM/VMD or equivalent veterinary degree.
- Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiology (ACVR) or the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (ECVDI).
- A strong interest and drive to strengthen your skills in advanced diagnostic imaging, particularly MRI, CT, neuroimaging, supported by mentorship and collaboration with Sage’s radiologists, neurologists, and clinical team.
- Ability and desire to function as a clinical consultant, collaborator, and mentor.
- Strong communication skills and an ability to translate complex imaging findings into meaningful, practical information for both Sage clinicians and referring veterinarians.
- Comfortable providing both real-time and asynchronous clinical guidance in a technology-enabled virtual environment.
- Commitment to clinical quality, mentorship, evidence-based medicine, continual learning, and improvement.
